Hadrian's Wall
« on: October 31, 2003, 05:03:22 PM »
The History Channel ran a show today on Hadrian's Wall.
I only caught the closing credits, but in the middle of this intense, military music they're playing, they showed a picture of two sheep.
I'm thinking the voice over is something like:
"Hard pressed to hold the Picts out of Britain, and unwilling to hire more Saxon Mercenaries, the Romans resorted to sheep to defend their borders."
Either that, or the sheep replaced the camp women, I wasn't sure.

We just recently talked about Hadrian's Wall in my history class.

"So he built the wall to keep the Scottish barbarians out."
"Yeah, 'cause a 4-foot wall is going to keep out a whooooole lot of people.

(I know, it used to be much taller, but the idea of 6-inch Scots amuses me to no end.)

If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)
