Pride and Prejudice: A latter day movie
« on: December 05, 2003, 04:20:39 PM »
Do the previews for this set anyone else's teeth on edge?

Doesn't there seem to be entirely too much pink involved?

I know none of the male types will probably care, but it makes me sick.

Modern day and LDS.  The premise is quite funny, in my mind.  Instead of the gaggle of sisters that are always talking about marraige, it's a bunch of rommates at BYU.

I've actually heard pretty good things about this one, for what that's worth.  It's not Halestorm, so that's a big plus.

I just looked up the SL Tribune's review, and they said it was pretty good (which, coming from Sean Means - a critic who despises LDS cinema - is a high recommendation).  He also said that the LDS references are few - BYU isn't ever even mentioned by name.  One exception: The guy that marries Elizabeth's friend (I can't think of his name - the nerdy priest guy) is played as a nerdy RM who quotes the Ensign on dates.

I do want to see it, but don't really want to drag my husband.  Izzy, we should get together next weekend before finals and see it together.

I really want to see it too--I'm just not sure I could convince Chris to go with me, since he hates Pride and Prejudice in the first place...

Ah, one of those. I suppose I'll have to wait till it comes out on video and someone who has Utah family brings it back from vacation, as I did with The RM. (Which, by the way, was definitely worth the price I paid--$0, borrowing the video from a friend.) I got lucky with The Singles Ward--happened to go out there for a visit when it was in the theater. I don't foresee myself going to Utah for years now, though. No reason (except my fine Utah friends, of course--but no school, no job, no family there, you see).

Yeah, but I'm wondering how limited a release it is.  One of the reviews I saw was from the website Askmen.com.   They are a decidedly NON mormon type of website, (Think online Maxim, with twice the sex).  They didn't mention ANYTHING about it being from Utah, or anything about Mormons.  They just said, "Ugh, chick flick."  It was kind of creepy.

However the website for the movie says it's only playing in Utah.  So i'm decidedly disturbed by this.

Oh, and Izzy- you're right.  WAAAAAY too much pink.

I think the three of us should go, and then gloat about already being married. ;o)

* Stacer sets Brenna, Mistress of Darkness, and Brenna on fire

That's what you get for gloating.

Brenna, you got set on fire TWICE!

I meant to gloat at the characters in their relationship troubles.

:(

lol.  Maybe it's to make up for the fact that I've never been set on fire before. :)

It's fun to gloat at characters in movies--they can't get upset at you. :)

I like to heckle them and mock them.

So, would Friday evening be okay? I actually have to work during the day. . . .
