The Tuxedo
« on: December 08, 2003, 05:51:09 PM »
So, last night on cable I saw most of the Jackie Chan movie The Tuxedo.  Man, was that ever a waste of good film.  Even Jennifer Love Hewitt's cleavage couldn't save this movie (and, believe me, it tried really really hard - making it's extraneous way into every shot and camera angle).
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier.

Yeah, its kind of how I felt rewatching Martrix: Reloaded. I just wanted to skip past the speaking and get straight to the fighting. I enjoyed the fight scenes in the Tuxedo. I'll admit I saw this one in the theater with my friends.

I actually liked the movie. You might feel better about it as a whole, if you had the chance to watch the bloobers (I saw it on DVD).

I thought she meant boobers, which is probably the only reason I'd watch it.

I think that that quote sounds like the kind of thing *I'd* put in a review or on the back of a DVD.

I actually had the misfortune to see part of that movie. I think I ended up deciding to listen to Kraftwerk on headphones instead. It was quite exceptionally bad.

It was an alright movie, but not as good as you would expect a Jackie Chan film.  The comedy was pretty weak and a lot of stuff was taken for granted.  The Medallion was a lot better, and even that wasn't his best film.  You just expect something more like Shanghai Noon, Rush Hour, or Drunken Master from a Jackie Chan movie, and both Tuxedo and Medallion were quite a bit different then those which I think is the biggest reason they weren't as good.  They were like A-grade budget films with B-grade movie scripts

Hollywood just hasn't figured Jackie Chan out, I think.  He's at his best when he's given a b-grade script, but allowed to just run crazy with it and put in his own comedy and action scenes.  They try to force him into the 'blockbuster' mode, and that just doesn't work for him.  He's too quirky.
