28 Days Later...
« on: May 06, 2004, 08:48:34 PM »
Anyone seen this movie? I honestly thought it was very good. It's not so much about horror as it is about human nature, and maybe family values could tie in there a little bit. Sure, it was gory at some parts, but it wasn't like the new Dawn of the Dead (which, by the way, had massive amounts of blood in every scene, and, also by the way, was the lamest movie I have ever seen). I think 28 Days Later started as one of those small independent art house films in Europe somewhere, but it was very popular so it got released here. So, thought, ideas, opinions, etc? Please share.

Idiot boy.

Its a ZOMBIE MOVIE. Deep meanings = 'BRAINS...'.

Plus, its british, and thus is better. Couldn't you tell by the fact that it had soldiers not carrying M16's?
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

I remember seeing previews for this when I was in Scotland. It was to be released soon after or something. Funny how there's such a delay between releases from one country to another. Some, like Harry Potter, open at the same time, while you guys had some movies in the theatre that had been released about 6 months earlier in the U.S., and we didn't get 28 Days Later till, what, early this year? Late last? So I think it was over a year after its release in the U.K. I wonder what influences such decisions. Marketing? Expected audience?

But it looked too scary for my tastes, so I haven't seen it.

I was *extremely* impressed by this movie.  I didn't really expect to enjoy a zombie post-apocolyptic movie done by Danny Boyle.

But I did.  I think it's amazing.  Need to buy a copy actually.

Well, Max, you should see it. I don't think the zombies in this movie would really creep you out, as they're technically not "zombies." They're not your everyday zombie, more like crazed people just running around. You would like it, I think Max, and I know that you have seen more disturbing things than it.

It's a zombie movie that actually has *thought* put into it.
I get creeped out pretty easily.   Once the movie was over I wasn't scared, unlike other movies such as The Ring.

As for deeper meaning, yeah it's there.  The first half of the movie is more or less running from zombies; the second half is "Well, crap the world ended; what do we do now? Hey there's another zombie, let's run away!"

Yeah, fuzzy basically just summed it up. About the movie, I really liked the sequence of events where Jim carrys out his plot to get his friends (the two girls, I forgot their names) back, and *spoilers....minor*

kills the soldiers to get them back. I kind of liked the ending, I don't really know if it had enough closure for me. BTW, on the DVD, there are, I think, 3 alternate endings, two of which are film. The third is actually hand drawn, kind of like shots of a storyboard (not animation) but I liked it.

hmm, maybe i will see it, I just get creeped out when dead things move, I think it's a basic animal/human response, things that look dead shouldnt move, it goes against fundamental laws of nature and creeps me out to no end

Well, in the movie, they're technically not "dead," they've just been infected with a virus that makes them...umm...very rampage-ous (is that a word? I don't think so...) You see, zombies must be killed by injuring their head fatally (bullet shot, etc.) The people in this movie are still alive, thus can be killed any way you want to go about it. But, I digress, I would still classify it as a "zombie" movie...
