Star Wars the TV show
« on: September 13, 2004, 04:17:57 AM »
so on Friday Lucasarts confirmed that they're working on a SW tv show.  No other details are out, you can see the news on theforce.net right under them talking about mark hammel talking about ESP 7,8,9 which aren't being made.  So it could be the TV show takes place after the movies.

Dono, some people didn't think the smallville would be any good.  Just as long as it has nothing to do with the cristmass special it cannot be that bad.

I think it needs to be given a fair shake. I know a lot of people cringe at the prequels, but the prequels are still better than many, many movies out there. I think they're unfairly held to a higher standard than other films. They dont' compare well to the original trilogy, but really, how much does?

If they good a production crew, I think it can be pulled off.

I never thought the Stargate TV should would have been good, and that was from a so-so, but fun, movie.  So even if it's as good or worse then the prequals it'll be some of the best SCI-FI on tv.  Plus, unlike firefly or Farscape, Lucas is probaly going to be finaceing it himself so the networks aren't worried about looseing cash on fance F/X.

I say, potentially a good thing. Looking forward to it.

If it does well, we may see a lot more sci fi series on TV.

I will definitely support it , but at the first hint of Bea Arthur, I'm gonna book the other way.

Any word on if it wil be live action or animated?

Or what time period it will be set in?

I think everything in Episodes One and Two would have made better TV than movies.

Episode One: Two Jedi investigate a trade blockade on a planet, help the people free themselves.  Sounds like a good hour-long episode, and would have worked far better than the movie.

Episode Two: Two Jedi protect an important dignitary from assassins.  Again, better plot for a TV show than a movie, I think.

The nice thing about a TV show is that, in all likelihood, Lucas himself won't have a direct hand in it--he may approve scripts or some such, but I imagine that he'll mostly just be the sugardaddy who hands out the cash. Now don't get me wrong, I love Lucas, but he's much better as an idea man than as a writer or director.

No on either of those Slant, though the rumors are they'll be live action takeing place after Jedi.

anyway great quote from Carry Fisher from a Star Wars special on A&E the other night.  "I'm not famous becaue I was princess Leia, She's famous and I just happen to look like her."

(Updated 24 August 2004)

J. Michael Straczynski has been offered two different series pending contractual negotiations and formal pickup by the networks involved. Straczynski does not know which deal will be completed first. Straczynski says they could both be very cool to work on, but one of them could be insanely successful. More information should be available in late October. It is unclear whether the positions he has been offered are "Show Runner" positions.

In June 2004 Straczynski spoke of an offer for an Executive Producer position on a new network series. He doesn't usually work on shows that he doesn't create or develop, but when he heard what this project was, he had to get on board. This might be one of the two series currently in negotiation.

(Neither is Trek-related, just to nip any potential rumors in the bud.)

IMO, they should stick with animation, tho that may be a hard sell in prime time even for Star Wars. But the Clone Wars series did pick up an Emmy ;)
They could do post-RotJ with the main characters, even getting most of them for voice work. Or even something between ANH and ESB, there's 3 years to play with give or take.
