I'd been avoiding this thread, and finally saw the movie today.  

It was weird.  I was shocked I guess at all the preaching I felt was being done to me.  And yes, very Asian.  I left the movie theater feeling very much the awkward American, who didn't quite get what the heck was going on.  I mean I GOT it, but once I got it I didn't know what to do with it, you know?  I don't think it's one I'll buy.

I found Crouching Tiger to be much more of a "you have to be Asian to get it" kind of movie, but then, I seem to have liked Hero far more than anyone on the thread, so who knows.

yeah, CTHD was a very "It's an Asian thing" but it was still very good. Trying to convince the wife to see ANY movies with me, let alone Hero.
