Why Lawyers don't watch "Law & Order" or "CSI"

Being a lawyer, I have to agree with this article. I know many lawyers have complained about those shows, even though I use to have an evidence professor in law school who actual wrote scripts for Law & Order.

I think this article does a good job trying to explain to nonlawyers why such shows are not usually entertaining to lawyers (or maybe it was just to make fun of them). To bad it was published by the DBA, so I dediced to post it here in hopes that some nonlawyers would read it.
A peasant between two lawyers is like a fish between two cats.

Some of those show suggestions are pretty funny, but that's pretty much how I look at all shows in the law genre. I can't watch Law & Order at all.

OH, I think you KNOW the answer to that question.

Like any profession is ever treated realistically by TV or movies.

Writers, for example. are not all cranky recluses with mental stability issues. There's a minute portion of us who are well adjusted and social. The rest of us call them freaks.

A while ago NPR had the real-life CSI team from Las Vegas on their program, and they were all making fun of the TV show.  One guy I remember (who was part of the FBI forensics team) was complaining about how everyone on the show knew everything about every kinf of forensics.  In reality, the guy said, he's the world's expert on typewriters.  That's all he does -- just knows everything about the forensics of typewriters.  The woman who shares his office knows everything about rubber stamps.
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier.

And thank goodness, because somebody needs to solve the growing number of rubber-stamp-related murders.

You should know, Fell.  There's got to be quite a bit of that where you work.

The completely unbelievable thing about CSI (aside from every test they ever need being ready in a matter of hours - if not minutes) is that the lab tech guys solve the crimes! They interview the witnesses and follow up on the leads. Why do the police departments even bother with detectives when they can just have lab guys do everything.

Not so with Law & Order. Lenny Briscoe can't even run fast enough to catch the punks - but he has a wisecrack for every situation. I don't watch L & O for Jack McCoy and his questionable ethics. I watch Lenny try and catch his breath again. That's real police work.

I've heard of "SVU" and "Criminal Intent," but not "At All." What's the premise behind that one?

anything goes. They once had a murder on a space station in the Andromeda galaxy that the NYPD was called in to investigate.

Just when we were saying these shows were losing all believibility...

They go around and make the most believeable series yet! It's astounding how they regain our trust!
