Poetry.dumb?

Alright, I had to sign up at Poetry.com to unlock this feature at a website. So I did and I had to write a poem to get the password or whatever. So I did, on the spur of the moment.

A few days ago I got some snail mail saying that my poem is in the finals contest or whatever and could be published in their book of many poems. I was totally skeptical of this at first, but now I sent in the thing saying that they can use it and that its fine. So now, for your unbelievable privilege my poem entitled "A Mind."

"A mind is not what I have,/ Or what we can find./ Instead I have a mind for you,/ And yours should be for me./ But if you're at a loss of words,/ Then don't despair, as I am as well./ But when we do say something to each other,/ We'll both be happier because of it."

I did the same thing, and got the same letters about reaching the finals. I actually write real poetry on occasion, but no, it was the poem I wrote in one minutes that's getting published. Here it is:

Emblem of...
In the name of the flag
We lie down our lives
Into battle
an odd surprise
Under the sun
Awake we sleep
Don't use your hands
When you walk down the street
Or you'll feel hurtful and meek.

I can't remeber the rest exactly, but that's close enough.

Poetry.com is...well, it's not a scam, but it's something you need to be careful with.  Their prizes are actually real, but everyone I've ever heard that submitted (including my 15 year old sister) is a 'finalist.'  They earn the money to give away prizes by selling $50 copies of books containing poetry submissions.

So did any of you that got published buy one of the books?  My sister did and she was the first poem in the book.  So I was just curious if is was in all the books or if when they print a book for someone they allwayse place said person poem first?
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

Dunno. I wasn't really going to shell out $50 for that. Plus they wanted to have it read on their audiobook thingy. Only way for that to happen for me is if Robin Williams read it.

I hate poetry.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)
