Homestar and Strongbad
« on: June 04, 2005, 03:56:36 PM »
I'm amazed that in a whole section on Free webcomics, there's not a single one about Homestarrunner.com and especially the Strongbad emails there.

Do any of you frequent that site?

If so, what are your favorite bits?

If not WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!?  ;)

Perhaps those of us who do take it completely for granted that everyone else does and feel it's like pointing out the sun in the sky.

'Tis the sun?

My favorite Strongbad emails are Kids' Book and English Paper.  (One of my husband's students turned in that English paper, complete with the diagrams at the end.  But no money.  Heh.  He gave it a Z.)

HAHAHAHA.  That is sweet; not the turning in of the paper so much, but the grade.  Fabulous.

I was actually intending to do that.
Now I've been cheated.

Okay, I was looking for a different one, but I found this one called lackey and it made me laugh, really cheered me up. So I decided to share. Make sure to click on the melon at the end and get the fun extra.

I like the fairly recent one about the garage sale. That was really funny. Do you guys ever wonder why there are like ten guy characters and only one girl. What's up?? I sent a strongbad e-mail suggesting they add a new character. It could be Strong Bad's sister and her name would be Strong Glad. She would be way perky and annoy him all the time. I think it would rock!

What, didn't you see that hot chick in the bikini behind PomPom in today's SB email?

Okay, first of all, I had not seen the new SB email when I put in my comment, and second of all, I do not count her because cameos don't count. I'm talking about real characters.

List:
Strongbad
Strongmad
Strongsad
Homestar
Homsar
Bubs
PomPom
Poop Smith
King of Town
the Cheat
Coach Z

Did I forget anyone? And the only girl? Marzipan. That's it!

I think PomPom might be a girl.

There is the Teen Girl Squad. But I don't think they really count, because they are a cartoon drawn by Strongbad, and thus aren't real characters but are Strongbad's perception of teenage girls.

They are quite funny, though. "Grood. I mean good. And great. Great and good."

They are even funnier when the guys at work recite TGS lines in the correct voice. Jesse is particularly good at it.

"I miss video games."
"I miss my mom."

I think this describes far too many college guys--which is why it is so funny.

So I can't help but notice that except for one post, all the posts on this thread are from females. I've looked at some of the other webcomics discussed, but though I've found some entertaining I haven't seen anything I like as much as Homestar.

What is it about this site? Both guys and girls like it--unlike some comics, that seem to appeal more to guys than girls. But it was a girl who started this thread and all girls who immediately responded to it. I wonder why Homestar has more feminine appeal than others. Is it just the humor?
