Well I don't know about the limited edition of DL as I never got it. I actually have the original edition of the rules which is the player's handbook and marshal's guide all in one. But it doesn't have as much info as the split copies.
The game has a great flavor to it and its mechanics, though seemingly wacky, add a lot to the game. The setting allows for all manner of fun to be had and I've yet to find a group who doesn't enjoy the game.
HOE is pretty good too, but not as much fun as The Weird West Setting. I'm not too big a fan of Lost Colony actually. It's like a combination of the Weird West and the Wasted West.
Do yourself 2 favors though:
1) You can get the PDF of the Deadlands Player's Guide for the low price of $5 from a company linked to from the PEG homepage. I think its rpgnow. Get it. You really don't need to buy the book. Or buy stuff in The Big Sale as those lots of books are really cheap. Too bad I have so many of them. You can also download the Deadlands to Savage Worlds conversion document from PEG for free. It's good.
2) WAIT! Deadlands Reloaded and Hell On Earth Reloaded are brand new books coming out next year revamping both lines for Savage Worlds. Both will include the entire metaplot of both games, which, currently is spread out over 25-30 books. This will be well worth the wait....unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket.
