RPG NOW
« on: August 17, 2004, 11:38:38 PM »
I thought I'd plug these guys. WWW.rpgnow.com.
RPGnow delivers PDF's for gamers, (usually supplements but whole games themselves) for a reduced cost.
I've been very happy with them since I started buying Pinnacle products. Its nice to print out 20 sheets of paper miniatures on my printer at home. Some offerings are even free like Ars Magica 4th edition.

But do they, like Drivethrurpg, give you a free book every week? Sometimes, a new and good one? (Like Sorcery and Steam)?

Pretty Much

Theres always a large collection of "freebies" some better than others...

Plus downloading from RPGnow is less of a hassle than Drive Thru.

Products in the "Now" also tend to be more indie and original...

For instance the new game I downloaded ... Motocaust is a professionally done Mad Max meets Night of the living dead type of game with some cool mechanics.

Granted its not all of DP9's old catalog,... but some particularly neat stuff is there.

Plus and this is the kicker,... you can submit your own PDF products and sell them for cash!

the downloads are cool. The forums and the reviews are... less than adequate. I've found a few helpful reviews, but overwhelmingly they are full of crap and don't say anything useful about the game. Lines like "fun mechanics" (what makes it fun -- tell me so I know if it will be fun for me too) and "easy character design" (tell me more about this design process so I can decide if it will be "easy" or just "too simplistic") typify reviews there.

THeir "how to play" content is even worse.

I second the coolness of rpgnow.

I' ve used it quite a bit over the last year and am very happy with their service and prices.

And yes, you don't have to deal with all the limitations of Drive Thru RPG

Its interesting just how much brand loyalty plays a part with download services. I started fooling around with RPG now, because of Savage Worlds, and have now branched out into other Downloads from the site.

Im not too disappointed with their Roleplaying forum, because If I need advice on that I come here, or go to RPG.net, or the forum of that particular game....

I do like their prices, the speed of delivery and the fact that you can download from the site again and again if you save the email they send you.
