I've thus far avoided ads mostly because I dislike them, but the more I hate my job the more I think that we ought to turn this site into a profitable venture. I just don't see how (since $1 per page load, as was suggested earlier, is ridiculously more than any ad site would ever pay).

Speaking of which, Tage, it looks like the server move broke Urchin. We have no stats.

usealy you get 3 cents a hit.  There was a time (during the late 90s) when realy popular sites would make like 25 cents or so a hit.  I don't think there was ever a time when you could get $1 a hit.

Thankfully, becasue of Tage hosting the site for us, Fell dosen't have to pay for bandwith, so we don't have adds.  And I know Fell hates Pop-ups as much as the rest of us so you'll, hopefully, never have to worry about them if he ever does adds.
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

RPG.net are attempting it with their own online shop it seems.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

Yeah, I know about Urchin. The fun part is that it isn't just us, Urchin is hosed on all the VPS2 systems. So basically, no stats.

banners are not a problem except when the banner host is horribly horribly lagged. I pretty much ignore them otherwise

Except when they flash like crazy and use really obnoxious colors. Yahoo is notorious for this.

Or make noise of any sort.  Like the cursed "slot machine" ones that never shut up until you refresh the page.

No, my mom used to work for a website advertising company and there are some contracts that you can get a dollar a hit up to a certain amount and then you get like 1/2 a cent per hit.  They aren't too common, though...
