WoW Tech Question
« on: December 08, 2004, 07:00:15 PM »
Okay, some I think I'm going to trade in some XBOX games and get either WoW or Pirates! as a reward for myself for doing so well studying for boards.

Here's the question... I hesitate to get WoW b/c of my RAM.  I have 256.  I know it meets min reqs, but I don't trust that so much anymore.  I'd hate to get it and have it run really poorly.   I meet or exceed all the other min reqs and even many of the recommended.

What do you all think?  I wish there were a video stress test lke FF XI had so I could see how it ran before I committed to it.

Reward yourself with more RAM instead of a game--then all your other games get better.

I know lots of people that play WoW with 256 megs of RAM, though they have to turn down the graphics.  512 is ideal if you can though.

I've got 512 megs of ram (but a worse video card then you, barely) and I have very few problems.  Though large scale PvP does lag me a lot.

I agree with Fell, get RAM.  Though I realy do want Pirates!

Chirstmas money will be for RAM.  Remember, I have stupid RDRAM so it costs an arm and a leg.   Then I'll have 512.  Finally.

Yea!  Way to fall to peer pressure!!

Grokk, Troll Rogue on Hyjal.  I'll be on this guy most of the week.  Usealy 7-8pm to 9-10 pm, then at work when I can.  Not going to be on tonight until about 1am your time.

I'm going to see Fell tonight and try and see if we can set up a time to play on the RP Server so we can play together.

I played in the beta for a long time with 256M of RAM. The griffin flights were awful (Hippogriffin rides were better for some reason) and passing by the auction house in Ironforge was a futile affair. Making a trip through the Ironforge/Stormwind area usually required a reboot of my computer for some reason, and I tended to skip-jump a bit in most parts of the game. It was generally playable, but there were rough points.

So I bought myself a 512M chip and swapped out one of my two 128M chips (Stupid cheap Dell) to bring me up to 640M. It wasn't 100% flawless going through areas that lagged me badly with 256M of RAM, but it was close.

I've got a Dwarf Paladin on CC who I just took to 6th level.  It runs really well..as long as not many folks are around.

Yup, I'm going to have to get more RAM.  Good thing I was planning to anyway.

Make sure to goto your video options and turn down the graphics, it'll run better.  Though I do wish WoW used the feature FFXI had where if your computer was starting to hardware lag it would stop displaying PCs near you.  It worked very well.

Edit  E-mail me your dwarf's name and Class Mr. P.  I'll make a support character.

Also I talked to Fell and he likes the idea of setting aside a few hours a week just for TWG people to play togethor.  Maybe like 2-3 hours on Saturday or something, though I'll let him speak to that.

First thing I did was turn all the options down. Still looks good.

I did play with the resolutions for a bit.  It ran well even in some of the mid range ones until I hit a town and tons of folks were around.

A dwarf on CC, huh? Tell me his name, and I'll try to hook up with you. My only alliance character there right now is a night elf druid (named Arazel), but I was planning to make a dwarven hunter anyway.
