I don't know if you guys pick up any gaming mags, but for the past few months most of the main ones have been running full page adds for Gen Con.

One of the pictures is of a giant Settlers game board.  Each hex has to be a foot, foot and a half across and it has a detailed, wargame-esque rendering of the type of land it is.  Looks like its constructed out of the foam that GW builds their boards with.  Makes me salivate.

I think I wouldn't play in that game for the same reason I never played on the giant Street Fighter II machine with life size characters at the arcade -- everyone would see how bad I was.

Capcom released a free ware Settlers for the PS2 about 2 months ago in Japan.  But there's a monthly subscription to play it over their network.  They're going to be releaseing Gregory Horror Show here in the states so I'm intrtested to see how it plays.
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

Weird. If it plays good, it might be worth buying a PS2 just to play GHS.

There has been a PC Settlers game for years now, and it's completely unrelated to Settlers of Catan in every way. Is that what Capcom just released?

My japaneese is a little rusty, but all I can say is...

I'm not sure what to say, the web site looked like a very bubblegum approach to Settlers.

Also I wonder how trading would work? Half the fun is swindling the other players.

umm that's the actualy the link to the board game version.  I'll try to find one for the Video Game.  Here:
http://catan.jp/digital2003/index.html

Also you can't look at the GHS movie without a Capcom press pass.  But anyway it's a puzzel game not a board game that's based of the GHS anime in Japan.  So that makes me wonder what came first the boardgame or the anime.

I couldn't tell you unless you got some dates on the animation. the Upper Deck game was released about 2 years ago, I think. And UD usually builds off existing properties instead of trying to create their own, so I'd probably guess the animation existed first.

Setters of Catan was orignally made in Germany during the early 1990's as Die Siedler von Catan. About four years ago it was produced/distributed in the US by Mayfair games.

The links you posted, seem to be a japaneese altered version.

I don't know about GHS.

This is a bit of a digression from the current direction of the thread, but I found it interesting that seafarers was mentioned but nobody said anything about the Cities and Knights expansion.  While I agree that seafarers takes away a little, I found that C&K actually adds.  Not that it makes it better, I guess, but that the C&K option is just as entertaining, while adding a little more complexity.  (Basically more ways to score points/win.  But the ways are fairly integral to the original gist of the game, in my opinion, and I like the addition of the new effects cards.  They aren't development cards, I forget what they're called, you get them from building metropoli, etc.)

Welcome to the board officer  :)
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

So Kije, is it worth purchasing with my hard earned dollar-a-day allowance?
