Heh.  The problem with hitting is that people probably haven't increased the right attributes.  If you have the magic dammage attribute buffed, but not the magic 'to hit' attribute, you won't hit very often.

Once I have this all figured out, I'll post which attributes do what.  After that, I'll tweak for game balance.  And, after that, we might start trying to incorporate a visual interface that Sprig is working on.

What I want to know is, what if you don't care about Magic? What if your character is a straight "run up and hit 'em" type. Does that have any bearing on the types of attacks one is likely to throw?

Well what I think EUOL should do is add boxes next to each of the attacks (thrown, melee, hth and the 3 magics).  You'd then enter a numerical value to each.  0=don't use,1=highers priorty,2=mid=3 low.  That way you'll use the attacks you declare when you challenge someone and when someone challenges you.  Sort of like a simple attack stragategy.

Yes, MoD, it does.

What the duel will do is compare your various skill points in the 'Duel type Determination' round.  Your various skills in these important areas will determine which type of combat comes up.

Charisma=Vocal Debate
Dark Magic=Dark Magic Battle
Light Magic=Light Magic Battle
Neutral Magic=Neutral Magic Battle
Weapon Skill=Melee Battle
Hand to Hand Skill=Hand to Hand battle
Speed=Ranged Battle

What the game will do (and you see it doing this at the top of battles now, though it doesn't matter yet) is add up the total points between both players in all seven of these areas.  Then it will take the total dark magic points (for both players) and determine what percentage that number is of the total points.  That will be the percentage chance that a given contest will be one of Dark Magic.  It will do the same for the other six attributes.

So, if you want to be a 'run up and hit them' type, you want lots of points in either Hand to Hand or Weapon Skill.  However, if your opponant has an equal number of points in Dark Magic, then there will be an equal chance that a given bout will be one of Dark Magic.

Progress Notes:
--The game should now work for players whose usernames and profile names are different.
--Light magic and Neutral Magic bouts should now be active.

Okay, things are cleaned up a bit, and I added the final type of battle--oration.  Now the plan is to add a check for hit points, so that when someone goes under zero, the battle ends.

Also, two classes--Student of Divinity and Warfare, I think--don't have weapon or spell names yet.

Once the system is completed, you should have it keep track of victories.

That's the idea--though I'll want to introduce a handycap system first, so that people don't simply inflate their numbers by beating up on lowbies.

I would suggest that only players dueling others +-x their own level be recorded.  Like 3-5 levels or something like that.

That makes sense. That way they have to spam the board before they can challenge Sprig or me.

well you can challenge anyone, but only those close to your level would acutaly be kept track of for the wins/losses.

That's one thing I considered.  Though, to be honest, I'm worried about not leaving people many options for dueling.  If it's the 5 levels rule, the high people will have trouble finding others to duel.  A handicap might work better, if I can get it balanced.

However, I do intend to keep you from getting a duel percentage until you hit level five.  No one below five counts, and people below five can't record wins.  Something like that.
