*digs through history notes*

I can't remember- was he famous for much?

How interesting, in a "completely irrelevant" sort of way.  I wonder how many politicians can trace their family back that far?

Guessed? Probably not. Surprised? Not at all. Think about how slave women were treated.

THAT Edward?  The one who was actually king of Scotland, only his mother tried to kill Queen Elizabeth, and so Elizabeth had her executed, and named James her successor?

(I found my history notes)

Holy cow no! *slaps fuzzy*

That was James the first of England and the sixth of Scotland, the one who formed the united country.

Edward "longshanks", aka "Hammer of the scots" was the guy who decided to annex scotland while fighting a war in france, and among other things shelled edinburgh castle after it surrendered with trebuchets, spent 3 days massacreing and raping the entire population of Berwick (one of the richest cities in the UK at the time). It is said he only stopped it after he saw a English soldier hacking a woman apart as she was giving birth.

Not one of my favourite kings you may have guessed.

Well I never watched Braveheart.
Maybe that explains Bush's foreign policy.

And whose idea is it having TWO "James I" ?  How are we ignorant Americans expected to keep these things straight?  At least our two John Adams-es had can be distinguished with a middle name or something.

Not that most of us DO remember which John Adams is which. Though we do know Samuel Adams. Because he made that beer. And the only reason whe know who killed Alexander Hamilton is because of that Got Milk? commercial.
