Thanks for the reminder, Sprig, but remember that the Site News section is for site news, not general news.

Hmm. Looks like MS is really down playing the effect of the Sasser virus.

This was the message I got when I tried Spring's link.

We’re sorry, we were unable to service your request. As an option, you may visit any of the pages below for information about Microsoft services and products.

The link works. It just didn't then for whatever reason. Too many people checking it?

In other news, I too am immune because I am running win98 SE. (Yes, that's right folks, our very own Saint has his own operating system). It's at times like these when I remember why I shouldn't complain that I'm the only person in my company who's computer runs 98 instead of 2000/XP.

It looks like few of the home versions would be affected either. Mostly just 2000 and the earliest version of XP (can't tell if it's professional or not).

Okay, so yes, all of this information is listed on that page, but I thought it was interesting, especially since it seems to affect so few versions of the MS OS. Does this mean that the virus is not as widespread as they thought, or that most companies are not using the newest versions of the software?

Well, they can downplay it all they like, but the fact of the matter is that it shut down the entire Weyerhaeuser system yesterday, which means that all our work here hand to handwritten instead of computerized, which means that my inbox is piled high.

Dang sasser.
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier.

if the computers are all down, I leave.  (i wish, I can still talk to customers when they're down)

If it's not in the computer, it didn't happen. Are you SURE you exist?

You went to Symantec's, McAfee's, and F-Secure's web sites and you don't feel like they told you what the worm does?

Sasser.D, scans so aggressively for new computers to infect that it may cause networks to become congested with packets of data and slow down.

Poor programming by Sasser's creator makes infected machines shut down.
