If you want it to be authentically Mexican, you have to serve Coke. Of course, if you want it to be authentically Mexican you won't celebrate Cinco de Mayo at all. Crazy gringos.

Mexican or Mexican American? Maybe they don't celebrate in Mexico that much, but in Las Vegas, May 5 is a big day for parties among the hispanic communities. OF course, those communities don't need much of an excuse to gather boisterously and drink a lot and listen to loud music.

Cinco De Mayo is an American thing.  My friend Steve lived in mexico and they never celebrate it down there.

It is not a spanish thing. The battle was concerning a war of Mexican independence.

Quote
The 5th of May is celebrated in the United States among the Mexican-American population, especially in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Various Mexican-American societies use the celebrations to commemorate the overthrow of the Mexican Imperial Monarchy headed by Maximilian of Austria. The Imperial Monarchy was imposed from 1864 to 1867 on Mexico by Napoleon III, Emperor of France (nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte) and the Mexican conservatives "Club de Notables".
