So...can you format html to display things like a regular document?  Ie, can you make it automatically indent the first line of a paragraph?  And can you make it double-space?

Inquiring minds want to know.

use the <pre> tag. Though that's not friendly to resizing displays. I believe there's a style sheet way to do it, but I'm too lazy to look it up, and someone geekier than me will get to it first anyway.

Yes, you can do all those things by using CSS (not with <pre>). It's a bit complicated, especially if you know nothing about CSS already.

Complex, but extremely powerful. Which is why I should learn to do it one of these days, using full XML rather than sticking to my HTML 3.2 roots.

XML is a markup used in things like Quark, isn't it? Or at least, in InCopy and InDesign. I think I was going to have to learn it if I stayed on at Houghton, because they were transitioning over to it.

Yeah yeah, so I left out a letter.  Big words coming from someone whose birthday we celebrate by intentionally misspelling words. :)

actually, it was two letters. HT

Big words from someone whose whole country gratuitously ADDS letters to words like armor, honor, and color.

XML is a superset of XHTML and can be used for tons of stuff beyond just web pages.
