Vegemite!
« on: October 14, 2004, 08:02:03 AM »
Well, as it was nearly my last day here in Australia, the office forced me to eat a Vegemite sandwhich while they all watched and laughed.

For those who haven't experienced this Australian 'delicacy' and have only heard of it though the Men at Work hit "Land Down Under," it's a biproduct of beer production high in yeast, salt, and vitamin B.  It's pretty healthy, except for high salt content, and seems to be a staple for kids down here.

Also, it looks like compacted sewage and smells like an old sock dipped in a stagnant toad-breeding pool.

All that considered, it didn't taste bad.  In fact, it was kind of tasty.  Apparently, the trick is to spread it very thin.

So there's one more experience under the 'ol belt.

Yeah - it's one I've always skipped. I am yet to discover what it tastes like, and I'd like to stay that way.

It won't become part of my regular diet, that's for sure, but it wasn't bad.

Mostly, it's salty.  It gives a little flavor to buttered toast, for instance.

But it's not better than peanut butter. In a game of gladitorial combat, peanut butter would still take all comers.

How'd your Shadowfist game go the other day, by the way?

First game: I was too lazy to seed my deck.  (Brisbane house rules allow you to spread your Foundation and Feng Shui Sites evenly through your deck before shuffling, since it makes the game more fun when you don't risk bad shuffles.)

I folded after I failed to draw an FSS three rounds into the game.

Second game, I owXored all over Matthew with some Purist Funk.

Then Krazy arrived and we played Chez Geek instead.

Vegemite is horrible... but have you ever tasted Promite? *Thats* a bit better.  And even better when you put it on bread with peanut butter...

Ah but you see. Peanut butter is the rich man's gold and the poor man's beggar.

Ookla, you've been around long enough to know not to question Gemm.

I think if we compiled all of Gemm's responses since he's been here at TWG it would reveal what happened at Roanoke, the truth behind the Bermuda Triangle, and who Deep Throat was.

Actually, I don't think he's seen some of Gemm's most classic ones.
