You know, I was reading something earlier and I think it might be possible to mail them. I think mailing would be cheaper than UPS.

And Sprig, I will leave them behind if I have to, but it took me seven years to grow them to this size. That's not as easily replaceable. Really, the only one that I'm absolutely attached to is the fern, so if I can find some way to ship that one thing and can't do the rest, I'll give the rest away. But I just want to find some way to get them there if I can.

I've been considering driving, but I've pretty much given that one up, I think. It'd take me at least a week. I would be able to stop by at home on the way through, sure, but I could just as easily fly back home after getting settled for a few months. But I haven't ruled it out.

But it does seem a bit much to drive cross-country for plants.

Ferns are pretty tough, it should survive a couple days without stuff...

Well, I found a $99 ticket on Southwest, so that kind of decided me. I'm off to Seattle on May 10. My sister thinks she can spot me the money I might need to make up the difference to spring for a mover, so I might go that route after all rather than sending the books media mail--I think I found a mover that might do plants. If they don't, I might just take starts with me on the plane and *sniff* start all over again when I get there.

y'know, when we moved across country once, we rented a trailer for all my mom's plants (ask JEffe, she's got them ALL OVER the place) and they survived 4 days in a dark trailer with no attention.

U.S.P.S. to the rescue! I can send my plants parcel post for just over $30 each for the biggest ones, which includes special handling. That's a LOT less than the $500 for two of them that UPS quoted me. And if they'll be okay in the dark for a few days, I think they'll do fine. I think I'll only send the ones I'm most attached to (the schefflera, the fern, and two others) and give the others away. My roommate thinks I'm pretty stupid for wanting to send them--she says that $30 for a plant is really expensive--but a few of the pots alone would cost me that much each to replace, and the really big plants would cost more than that to replace.

Besides, it's not about replacement cost. It's about keeping at least a little bit of home, since I'm getting rid of so much else. These plants have been with me longer than most of my furniture.

Wow, that's really great about getting such a cheap flight. I hope everything works out with your plants.

Have you been to Seattle before?

Nope. It's going to be an adventure! But, when hasn't it been an adventure? My life has never been ordinary.

Which will probably be all of them. Look at my gallery and tell me what you want, both of you. Really, you can have them for the cost of shipping. I just shouldn't be carrying them around when I know I don't need them. I have enough stuff like that that I haven't been able to give up yet.  ;)

I have to admit I saw some furniture (i.e. bookshelves, dressers, and lamps) that I liked, but of course it would cost too much to ship. Too bad. If only you lived closer, I would definitely be there buying!

I think I've decided to keep my cute lamp. It won't take up much room, now that I've decided to use a real mover. And, now that I've decided to use a real mover, I might just hang on to my bike, too. And my guitar. All things that I intend to replace someday, but don't really have to force myself to sell now.
