I liked this book better than the first one, though  I'm still not sure why I find them so engaging since they do have a lot of flaws.
If I had any clue, would I be here?

You, know, I've been contemplating that, myself. For their many flaws, the books are engaging and compelling. I think one of the things that makes the romance between Bella and Edward so compelling is that he's just so dang kind. And wouldn't it be nice if the men in our lives were so kind, all the time? But then, if you really think about it, Edward is just a fantasy. There's so way a man could be so completely and utterly self-sacrificing ALL THE TIME. I think that I would begin to question my husband's sanity if he were so all-encompansingly (erg...is that a word?) aware of me and my needs. It would be suffocating after a time, and all it would do is contribute to my own selfishness and ego.

Something else I wonder about is that Bella feels comfortable and accepted in Jacob's life; whereas with Edward she never feels good enough (this is mostly herself wondering how someone so beautiful as Edward could love someone so shabby as Bella), and needs constant reassurance. But then if Bella did choose Jacob, could she throw herself into the relationship has wholeheartedly as she did with Edward? Either way, the relationship has problems.

See, it's exactly these kind of soap opera complications that make women swoon. It's sad, really.

My friend who told me about this series reads it because she likes Edward.  She can't stand Bella.  She says Bella has no redeeming qualities.  I'm not sure if that's completely true, but I can see where my friend is coming from.
If I had any clue, would I be here?

Bella is selfish and whiney. So, yeah, I agree with that. It's also written in first person, so I think that wouldn't come across so badly if it were in 3rd. Would probably be a better story that way.

You know, in the first book I didn't mind Bella. I could understand a lot of what she was feeling, and kept thinking 'Oh yeah, I remeber what that was like'.

But MAN! She was so annoying in the second book. And a little crazy, I might add. Seriously, the explaination in the end about her hearing voices annoyed me, it just kind of made her a little more weird.

I don't think changing the POV to 3rd would really make it any better. The firts person brings a certain voice to the story, and changing that would alter the story pretty drastically.

There is something incredibly addicting about this series. I seriously hope the next book gets better, because I loved the first one so much.

The third one is better for so many reasons.

I don't know why Meyer makes a heroine with such obnoxious flaws, so much so that it's hard to see what's good in her. It's pretty much impossible to like her in this book. At all.

And I agree about the crazy thing. That was just...weird. I have no idea why Meyer put that in there. It made no sense at all and just confused readers.
