Wood said security guards had seen the figure in closed-circuit television footage after checking it to see who kept leaving open one of the palace's fire doors.

Um, they've been leaving the fire doors open. Perfect opportunity for someone to sneak in through an open fire door. Anyone ever read From The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg? Two runaway kids lived in the Metropolitan Museum of Art for 2 or 3 weeks, sleeping in the historical bedroom set exhibits, getting money for food from the change in the wishing well.

I think it's like that--some weirdo thinks it'd be fun to live in a castle, dressed up in old-style costume. He sneaks in by a fire door he left open while on a tour, hides under the bed when the guards make the rounds.

Yep.  I saw that picture.  I don't care what the reason for it is, I think it's cool
