Interesting. He is right on the fact that iraq casualities are tiny. The British Army lost 17,000 men dead on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Another 30,000 British soldiers were also classed as casualities but did not die. Britain lost 540,000 casualities in total over the Battle of the Somme, which lasted about a month I believe. (The germans lost 470,000 in case your curious). In comparison, 1700 is nothing. More americans die every year from car accidents, I'm guessing.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

One thin is the constant media attention to the deaths in, for example, WW2 the media was restricted on what they could talk and show about the dead for about 2 years.
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

Yeah. I heard that the american government was amazed at the royal navy only allowing 2 or 3 reporters onto the falklands war contingent, and that they vetted what they could say. But they didn't put any of that into practice for the Iraq war.

been the opposite.

They figure, like in Vietnam, that reporters are going to get over there anyway (which is true) so they might as well show them with US troops to try and keep media attention positive.

And while that's worked in that the media isn't anti-solder (like in nam) it's drawn more attention to death and how un-glamorous war is.
