Since Ent lives across the pond, I don't think he'd be picking up a Mexican Volvo.

Actually, the cars are a bit different in Europe than over here. Mostly they are smaller there. I fact, I have a hard time picturing an SUV in London.

Speaking of which, Ookla, if you got over gas-guzzling car fear, you could get an SUV. Then you would be all ready to have kids and drive them to soccer practice, demolishing lesser vehicles in your wake.

42, my mom has an SUV, and my dad has an SUV. Honda and BMW respectively.

And yeah... the BMW was built in america. There are car plants all over now, a fair few here in the UK.

If you want a car with high gas mileage that doesn't give you much trouble, I'd definitely go with a Civic. MY family has had one for three years and the only time it ever had to go in to the shop was when my dad backed down our driveway into it. The only reason not to buy one is if you're extremely tall. My brother fits in at about 6'4", but any taller than that and there would be issues.

I have a saturn. It's a 95, which I like. It gets good gas mileage too. Although, I don't really want you to get a mini any ways because that's my dream car. =P

The best advice I could give you is go to consumerreports.com, pay their forty bucks on the car buying kit, and do research on which car is going to be the best for you. If I remember correctly, they had up to ten years worth of data on cars (assuming the production line goes that far) so you can still buy a used car armed with knowledge, plus it gives you great car buying techniques that is a must for someone not as sauve as a good hagler. We revently bought a Toyota Rav4 and love it. We did spend more than we were hoping (upgraded from a Plymouth Neon) but in the end have a great car that should be very reliable. I wouldn't discount the Corolla because you don't like the looks. I know several people who own them that love it. Don't be afraid of a new car either. New cars may lose value quickly, but if you take good care of the vehicle and you buy a good quality car, your maintenance should be just preventative verus repair.  Just to give you heads up on the power of consumer reports, I spent 40 bucks for their car buying kit (which is all online and you have access to it for three months to research just about any car you want) I saved well over $7000 dollars for my Rav4. That was a well invested $40 to me. Spent $40 to save $7000. Granted it differs from car to car, but you too could save from several hundred to several thousand. I hope that helps, and good luck with your new purchase.

I've been looking around at prices and stuff, and the mission car 2001 Corollas ~50,000 miles at $7200 are looking very attractive. According to NADA guides, that's the trade-in value of such a vehicle, and $1500 less than average retail.

I reccomend a Lada. Very cheap and it will get you from point A to point B. However you should avoid the new models and get one from the 70's.

I know nothing about cars.  Okay, I know a little, and that is this: I have heard nothing but horror stories about Neons.  I know your mission doesn't have them, but don't get one.  Our Neon crumpled like tin-foil in an accident with a tree moving near ten miles an hour.  Somebody I know also had their Neon totalled when should have been repairable.

And Spriggan's mini-van would be a good choice.

Cheesegrater,

Ladas are a bit difficult to find here in the US. Like, VERY difficult. They're kinda isolated to Europe and parts of Asia.
