Passing...
« on: April 07, 2004, 07:08:15 PM »
Sister Hinckley passed away last night. Maybe you Utahn's heard, but this sort of thing doesn't exactly make the front cover of the Washington Post. I'm a little sad.

More info here.

It was a news alert on all of the local TV stations yesterday.

It's very sad, particularly since President Hinkley mentioned during conference that she was ill.

What worries me is that most elderly men (about 60%) die within a year of there wife's passing. The previous couple of Church presidents followed that pattern. So I hope President Hinkley is doing well.

well, it is comforting that in the long run, it won't ruin the church or anything if he does. In fact, it means he can be with her again, and we still get the guidance he gave.

Of course, that doesn't mean it's not sad... but still...

I do feel bad for him.  but I also think that he's on good enough terms with the Lord that if he's meant to stick around for another few years, he will.  If not, then he's led a long amazing life, and been Prophet for .... a while.

President Hinkley is one year younger than my grandmother who is 95. My grandmother keeps complaining that she doesn't want to live to be a 100. Course, she's not doing a very good job of getting ready to die before a 100.

I think he will follow rather quickly. I remember some comments that he gave at the Navoo Temple Dedication that left me feeling like he might not be around very much longer.

It's been a while since any of the presidency or the twelve have died. And they are all getting up there in age.

He's been saying "I won't be around much longer" for about six years. Though I guess when you're 94, six years isn't very long.
