York was really nice, but way to crowded with tourists. Stupid europeans...
the Italians and French kids were the worst, walking arm and arm 12 across the street. It was satisfying to quicken the step lower the shoulder and give one of them the elbow as I went by. I did the same thing in Oxford to the Japanese but discovered that all they need is a good look in the eyes to get out of the way.
Off the map places to visit in England, Scotland and Wales.
1. Buxton, more famous to the Spa set, Buxton is the height of Georgian style, much less crowded than Bath with a great opera house and gardens.
2. Warwick Castle, Madam Toussads takes an honest to god castle and turns it into an amusement park. Sort of a walk on the wall and into the towers will leave you dizzy and out of breath. But is definitely worth it. The reinactors at the site were remarkably educated.
3. York, Stone wall beautiful Cathedral, cool meandering shambles...
nice.
4. Edinburg, better than London, sprawling vistas, amazing sights , friendly people, and a huge fricking castle overlooking everything filled with 1.The Scots Crown Jewels and 2. the Stone of Scone.
5.Winchester.... long cathedral
