Every now and then I browse job listings just to see what's out there. I found this--thought Ookla and Brenna, at least, would have an interest:

I found it here. You have to register, but it's free, and you really should know about this site anyway if you don't already. Their job board is centered around New York, but there are often other locations listed, too, and some freelance.

Looking at it a little closer, it requires quite a bit of experience. I don't have the kind of experience it's wanting--most likely when I start looking, I'll be going for assistant/associate ed. positions. But at any rate, do what you will with it.

I just wanted to chime in here. I realize my experience is in the video game industry, but when you look at job postings in this industry, studios list job requirements for what they WANT in candidates. That doesn't necessarily mean it is what they can get from candidates. If it's a job you're interested in, go ahead and apply for it. You may find you're the most qualified applicant they have. Or if not that, at least you're establishing you have an interest, and you can follow up later on.

What's probably going to happen is that all the editorial assistants from the other SF/F publishers in New York will apply for this job, and one of them will get hired. So a month or more from now, we should see a posting for an editorial assistant job from one of the other companies.

Anyway I am very very happy where I am now. New York is still a possibility in the distant future, but I'm going to play things out here for I imagine at least 5 years, would be just fine with much longer.
All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!

I'm thinking associates will move up, assistants will become associates, ed. assistants will become assistant eds., and then yes, the chain continues.

At any rate, it's an interesting job. Too bad it's 5 or 6 months too early.

Heh.  Moshe mentioned this one too.  He was almost wanting to try out for it, but it would mean losing his authors at Tor, which he doesn't want to do.  (Thankfully.)

Most editors take their authors with them, but I imagine there's more of a house loyalty than an editor loyalty at Tor.
