Nope, Rednecks are hobos and live on farms and marry their sisters. Hoons live in suburbia, spend their paychecks on beer and scratchies and drive cars.

Fergouse - The process of completely failing to understand English by suggesting that American english is 'real' english, as suggested by someone who mumbles something about 'stupid colonies'.

Now I wasn't dissing the word 'hoon', I was just unable to tell in the context if it referred to redneck hooligans or inner-city gang wannabe hooligans, or something else entirely.

It has a sort of ring to it.

I like it, it's both Onematapoiea (The sound of a hoon's car) and a descriptive word. (Driving around in their cars is called "hooning around")
