Table-Top Games / HC Origins!
« on: March 07, 2007, 01:55:59 AM »
I've finally got excited about this since I have money to buy the figures, WK has been horribly slow posting updates to their site about figures but once they lost Bro Magnus that's been the norm so unfortunately I haven't seen pictures but I've got stats!

http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=191088

Wants:

Vandel Savage  IL U
Gentlemen Ghost  IL U
Alfred   Bat Chaser
Mirror Maser REV
Copper Head REV
Green Lantern REV

Little disappointed in Savage, was hoping for more regeneration (ie General level) but he's got it on his second click with his first being invulnerability, that's nasty.  He's not much of a threat alone against V Green lantern (Arch-enemy) but against the rookie and Exp he could be.  Speaking of GL, the Vet is almost as strong as KC GL

Honestly, I don't know what he does, but it's probably not as cool as we think.

Awards Board / Best non-review article at TWG 2006
« on: February 27, 2007, 05:50:26 PM »
Name: Best article 2006
Image: TBA
Type: Unique
Level: 2+
Award Method: Achievement
Cost: N/A
Active: Yes
Active Date: February 27 - March 27th 2007
Description: Voted Best non-review article at TWG for 2006

Every year we got a lot of great content created by our forum and friends and so we want to start showing our thanks by offering a unique award, meaning there's only one of them, for the best in show here at TWG.  First off we're doing best non-review article, which can be anything that's not a review (simple eh?), meaning no score given on the page, how this contest works is described below:

1)During the week of February 27st-March 15th  PM Spriggan with your favorite non-review articles (max 3 please) nominations, these articles must have a publish year of 2006 also don't nominate yourself or we'll toss your submissions, also don't bother trying to create a new account to nominate yourself, we have that level restriction for a reason and can easily determine who's cheating.

3) Spriggan will then take the top 5 articles and create a poll allowing everyone to vote on their favorites (again you'll need to be level 2 to vote so don't bother trying to cheat) between March 15th-27  .

4) On March 27 the winner will be awarded their prize.
Good Luck!

Everything Else / Tax Time
« on: February 26, 2007, 01:07:36 AM »
So this is the last time in the poor as dirt tax bracket for me, probably going to double how much I earned this year, though the only reason I got more then $400 back is because of school (yea school!).

So what is everyone doing with their returns?  my grand is going into savings for that possible worldcon trip, not all that exciting I know.

Table-Top Games / Wizkids go Starwars
« on: February 09, 2007, 05:56:13 AM »
Yep WK just announed a Starwars game that look like Pirates, ship based and all.

It's a little strange considering Wizard's has a starfighter game and now WK has one so they're competing.  I guess let the best game win.

Table-Top Games / HaloClix
« on: February 03, 2007, 04:38:08 AM »
Yep, so the next clix games is a halo based one--yes the same Halo as the video game

Looks like that the figures will be larger the normal clix, plus fully posable so more like GIJoe figures on clix bases.

So let’s generously assume a D&D gold piece contains approximately 1/4 ounce of gold (the coin itself might weigh more, depending on the purity of the coin, etc.). Taking a look at today’s prices, gold is currently trading at around $580 per ounce. That means a D&D gold piece might be considered the equivalent of roughly $145.

then from the SRD a CR 1 encounter is worth 300gp which would make it $43,500 dollars for that encounter.

Table-Top Games / Wizkids goes Exclusive
« on: January 12, 2007, 03:14:29 PM »
There's a bunch of hub-bub over at ICv2 about wizkids going exclusive with Diamond/alliance as the only distributes of their products and I was wondering what's the big deal about it.
http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/9883.html

Well if you take this quote from Roger Fletcher of Diamond:

Quote
How will Diamond and Alliance handle sales of WizKids products to Internet retailers?

The policies of the two companies will be the same as they were in the past.  Alliance's terms of sale require a brick and mortar storefront to become a customer.  Diamond's do not specifically prohibit Internet-only retailers, but we're taking steps to implement changes for WizKids products.  In the case of specific Internet companies, if WizKids brings specific businesses to our attention, our systems have the ability to prevent them from buying WizKids products.
http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/9889.html

and this quote from WKs
Quote
Our products are best served when they're sold in brick and mortar stores because of the interaction that that venue provides.  One of our biggest directives is to make sure that we create a closer alliance with these retailer stores.
http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/9886.html
So it looks like WK wants the cheap internet costs of their products to go away the only way to get their products on the internet is via a hobby store that has a website.

and reaction from other distributors
http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/9890.html

Quote
The management of ACD, until last year WizKids' largest hobby distributor, called the action a "slap in the face."  "WizKids is showing no loyalty to a company that supported them from the beginning, took risks on their unproven products, and took an initial financial risk to the tune of over a quarter million dollars," CEO Rich Kummer said of ACD.  "Instead they are going with a company that passed on them at the beginning."

The interesting thing about this change is now there's no way for Canada to get WK products since all those distributes have been cut off and Diamond doesn't sell to stores there.
