So I'm going to set up a blog sytem for TWG using the engine I have for brandon's site and wanted to get some feed back before doing so.

1) Front page:  I'm thinking of placing the recent blog posts under the poll and widning that column some, this would probably just display titles and the blog name.

2) Deparment: same thing, place the blog on the side but maybe with more text.

3) Blogs themselfs:  Allow naming of blogs so more then one can be set up, there won't be deparment only blogs but blog posts relating to a deparment will show up on that deparment's page.  There will probably be a blog deparment too that will show intros to all the blog postings as well as a calender system.

Video Games / TWG on CoH/CoV
« on: May 16, 2007, 09:15:26 AM »
So because of the new update I got back into City of Villains.  I really like all the changes that have been made to the game (including the physics engine, being in a group with someone with wind power is really cool now).  The new crafting system really shines, even though there are now drops in the game it's not something like WoW or other MMOs where thats all you care about while still making killing stuff for loot cool.  Especially when you get something cool like Dragonwings that I got the other day.  Also crafting is expensive, but not so much so that you can't do it, which is good because now you have something to spend your money on outside of costume changes.

I'm mostly on CoV with my Stalker because I still find City of Heros to be a lot more bland and my Tanker is only fun in groups since he can't solo.  I might even start back up the CoH blog of Fell's for yor but make it in character, though I'd probably want to code a new system since I hated the old one.

CoV:

Shadow Scorpio (also my global chat handle) level 26 Stalker

CoH

Blaze Scorpio, level 14 Tanker

Suggestions Box / Site Categories
« on: May 11, 2007, 11:24:47 PM »
As some of you may have seen we've started to rework our department pages, right now everything is listed in the order it was submitted and I want to change that but to allow for some sorting.  But to do this in a way that will satisfy everyone I need to add categories to the site, these aren't department (all thought departments are categories) but instead things like Genre, keywords and the like.

So what I'm asking is for people to start listing words they think of when they read certain articles on how they'd classify that material they're reading in this thread.

Thanks all.

Anyone that has a TWG e-mail that wants to keep it needs to PM me or e-mail me if you want to keep it since I'm only transfering ones of the people I've already talked with.

So apparently Wizard's has chosen to not renew the Dragonlance license that Sovereign Press had, much in the same way they chose not to renew the Ravenloft one a year ago.  There's a thread on Wizard's forum that mention that there are 9 others not being renewed (with Dragon and Dungeon) but the poster can't provide proof (thus I'm not going to bother to link), the claim is then stated that since no 2008 licenses are being allowed that 4.0 is coming out or something more radical like the selling or re-branding of WoTC by Hasbro.  Oh, and they're going to pull the OGL (which is funny since it's "irrevocable") now that they've "killed" all the non d20 games there's no need for "free" content.

I personally think the DL license wasn't renewed because of the animated movie coming out and Wizards wanting to cash in on the possible success and the reasoning for Dragon/Dungeon's demise is magazines don't do well in this internet age so why not move that content online and remove the middle man?

Of course I could be wrong and next year we could all be plaining "Pepsi presents: D&D 4.0 where you collect your stats from under the bottle cap", but I'm not much of a conspiracy guy unless there are shape-shifting Nazi reptiles involved.

Movies and TV / StarWars Holiday Special

Thanks to SE for this, I guess.....maybe he was trying to punish us out here in Utah.

Actually wasn't as bad as I was lead to believe, if you can make it past the first 30 minutes or so it's not horrible--just bad--the Boba Fett cartoon was cool so was Han teasing Chewbacca's kid that his voice was changing (who thought this stuff up anyway?) but there's a lot of things in this special that if you think about will cause your head to explode like Chewbacca's father's fantasy is a human female singing to him and saying he's adorable.. that was creepy.

LoTR online is in open beta until the 24th

Site News / New pay per post system
« on: April 02, 2007, 08:38:15 AM »
As with the main site, to help Fell feed his family, we're moving to a pay-per system on the forum as well but in a more limited way.  Now any thread that has the moneybag icon requires 1 Fell Point to post in, and today is a free trial as the main site.

How do you get fell points?  Submitting articles for the main site is one way, earning awards via contests is another and for the lazy we're selling fell points for the low price of half a British Pound each, that's only 5 Pounds for 10 FP! The store will be up tomorrow and will be ran via Paypal so it's simple and easy to get your FPs.

Fell and his three kids thank you for your support in this hard time.

Awards Board / Best review of 2006 -- Active
« on: March 18, 2007, 01:17:57 AM »
Name: Best review 2006
Image: TBA
Type: Unique
Level: 2+
Award Method: Achievement
Cost: N/A
Active: Yes
Active Date: March 17 - April 5th 2007
Description: Voted Best review at TWG for 2006

Every year we got a lot of great content created by our forum and friends and so we want to start showing our thanks by offering a unique award, meaning there's only one of them, for the best in show here at TWG.  Next off we're doing best review article, which can be anything that's a review (simple eh?), meaning a score given on the page, how this contest works is described below:

1)During the week of March 17st-March 27th  PM Spriggan with your favorite review articles (max 3 please) nominations, these articles must have a publish year of 2006 also don't nominate yourself or we'll toss your submissions, also don't bother trying to create a new account to nominate yourself, we have that level restriction for a reason and can easily determine who's cheating.  This isn't which item being reviewed was the best, but the actual review it self, how it was written, how funny, fair, ect it was.

All eligible articles can be seen by clicking here.

2) Spriggan will then take the top 5 articles and create a poll allowing everyone to vote on their favorites (again you'll need to be level 2 to vote so don't bother trying to cheat) between March 27th-April 5th .

3) On April 5th the winner will be awarded their prize.
Good Luck!

Books / Harry Potter, third of sales for decoration only
« on: March 12, 2007, 06:32:50 PM »
According to this article in Britain that's true, 32% of people who bought Harry Potter books had no intention of reading them.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070312/od_afp/afpentertainmentbritain_070312122729;_ylt=AiZbYA3t4Uhwe3y4hFVbT2_MWM0F

and 55% of book sales are for decoration only

Quote
Although the average reader spends more than 4,000 pounds (5,890 euros, 7,760 dollars) on books in their lifetime, 55 percent admit they buy them for decoration and have no intention of reading them.

Everything Else / Truck Load of Amazon GCs
« on: March 08, 2007, 10:13:49 PM »
So through work, brandonsanderson.com and my dewbank I have about $430 or so dollars in amazon gift certificates.  Had $315 from work, about $60 from bs.com and (I haven't counted it yet, doing that after work today) about $60 from the coin bank.

I've already bought a 22" widescreen LCD for my PC and Phoenix Write for the DS (OBJECTION!!!) so I've got about $120 left, think I'm going to get the batman beyond season 3 DVD and a $10 1 gig microSD card for my phone but combined that's only like $35, anything else cool out there I can buy via amazon?
