Well I broke down and bought Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians, and now I'm bummed because I finished the book and I want to read more.
A lot of people describe Scalzi’s Old Man's War novels as military science fiction, but I would classify its sequel Zoë’s Tale as a space opera. It’s a story about, well, Zoë, a teenage girl whose parents are invited to take leadership roles in building a colony on a new planet. Zoë is an enthusiastic member of the group sent to colonize Roanoke, despite the risks—and the risks are considerable even before the political machinations of greater powers boil to the surface. It's a clue presented out of context, so I would be surprised if you found it. The name is mentioned a lot in book 3 though.
I understood this part all to well as by the time I read Elantris I was sitting around with two pins in my toe after having it broken at work in an accident. Still waiting for the pins to come out and its been almost 3 months now.
