Brandon Sanderson / Re: Theory on why Vin is so powerful *spoilers*
« on: February 13, 2008, 09:27:32 PM »
I am curious to see how Vin trains El.  Will it be Kel style, or she going to throw in her own personal touches.   Plus it will be interesting to see this affects their personal responsibility, since Vin has been El's protector, and now El has the potential to protect himself.

Ok, my thought on this is that since Zane had a spike

 :o

Zane has a spike?  How the heck did I miss that?!

I would like FREE, personally, but somehow I think that's just a dream.  ;)

Actually, all suggestions sound good.  I have my birthday coming up.  I may have to point my wife in this general direction.

Green Egss and Ham was a classic for my family, not to mention Monster at the End of This Book

I'd have to say that this is one reading group I'm really not that familiar with.  Guess I'm learning something too.  :)

So no one wants to be a smoker or rioter, huh?  Poor, misunderstood mistings.

I think being a Seeker would be cool, knowing who was burning or not, what they were burning, etc.  I like that idea!

Azhev:  Don't care much for Newcomb.  Really don't like the way that he writes and everything takes so incredibly long to happen in his books.  I've ended up putting down every book of his that I've ever picked up.

I agree.  He started off interesting, but then he got a really morbid fascination with blood...

Thanks.  ;D

Have you enjoyed Robert Newcomb's books, Lightningfall?  I've read The Fifth Sorceress and tried The Gates of Dawn, but I could never really get into the series.  And I've heard that the other books are a lot like.  What's your opinion.

Right now, reading First Rider's Call by Kristen Britain.

I rather enjoyed Through Wolf's Eyes.  Yeah, it plods along near the end, but it was a good read.  I've read the next two books in series, Wolf's Head, Wolf's Heart and Dragons of Despair.  While they are not the best reads out there, I have enjoyed the series, watching characters develop and seeing new characters.  Luckily, she seems to have learned and doesn't throw so many unknown characters at the reader.  Worth recommending.

Restoration by Carol Berg
Rules of Ascension by David B. Coe

Good books.  Especially Carol Berg's.

You might also wish to consider any of the books by Tamora Pierce.  They're all pretty good and appropriate for that age.  I would probably suggest the Circle of magic series and the Immortal series as they were my favorites.

As much as I enjoyed the Lioness quartet, there are references to sex.   Just be advised if you do go down that path.

My nephews have enjoyed the Leven Thumps series by Obert Skye.  Also Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is a great, fun read.

His books aren't bad, but I've never thought them worthy of the hype they have received.  There are better books at there, more original books with more unique plots and charactes.

A press conference is scheduled for 11am (MST) Monday in the Church Office building, I believe, for those of you interested.  Should be interesting.
