Books / Re: Books you dislike or used to dislike?
« on: March 03, 2008, 03:24:28 PM »
I would have to agree with you there, charity.  I just checked it out from the library earlier this week.  I was hoping that review was a little harsh, but it was actually spot on.  The Assassins of Tamurin had such potential, but feel very flat.

One good thing is that it was a single novel, and not part of a series.  This way, I don't feel bad for not picking  up the rest.   ;D

Reading A Sorcerer's Treason by Sarah Zettel, soon to be followed by Newton's Cannon by Greg Keyes.

Do we know much about hemalurgists right now?  We know that's how the Steel Inquistors are created, but no real specifics, right?

Video Games / Re: Why does Runescape ruin everything?!

Haven't played Runescape in a long time.  Never got a chance to really get the life sucked out of me.  I wonder if my account is still valid?

It's very popular at my library.  I see kids playing it on the computer all the time.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: WoT Read-Through by Brandon
« on: February 26, 2008, 05:18:59 AM »
So has anyone else read ALL of the WOT through like Brandon is doing? I tried with each new one but quit at about volume 8 or 9. I'll probably try when the last book is about to come out, but it almost feels like a chore to be done before I can go out and play. :-\

Nope.  I'm waiting until Memory of Light becomes more of a reality.   Then I'll tackle them.

Can't wait to see what EUOL has to say about Lord of Chaos.  That is probably my favorite book out of the entire series so far.

Have to admit that I am kinda jealous.  Not fair that you all can get together and make fun of movies while those of us in Kansas have to suffer.  ;)  :P

Hope you guys had fun!  What did you end up watching?  :)

Reading The Summoner by Gail Z. Martin.  Not too bad actually.  The only gripe I have is that everything seems to fall too neatly into place for the heroes.  I like a little disorganization myself.  ;D

readerMom, I enjoyed Rules of Acension.  Not the greatest thing out there, but a nice, solid read.  The series could've been shortened down to a trilogy I believe, but you should enjoy it.

I like.  Much better than the first cover.  I'll snap this one up for sure!

Everything Else / Happy Valentine's Day
« on: February 15, 2008, 03:52:55 AM »
Since I hadn't seen a topic yet about this, I thought I would start it (actually my wife is making me do this.  Something about it's a good thing to remember?  Oh well).

Anywho, Happy V-day or Single Awareness Day or Hallmark Day #1, whatever you title of choice may be.

His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik.  I'm really enjoying it.  It's a lot better than I thought it would be.

Movies and TV / Re: Books to Films.....

I think the Pern books by Anne McCaffery would be cool to see on the big screen.  Looks of cool special effects with the dragons, and Thread, and between.

However, I am very leary about any movie based from a book.  In my opinion, the track record of such endeavors hasn't been very good.

Hey, I never thought about that... I bet you're right. Gosh some of you guys are so smart... I just sit there reading and grinning while obviously you guys are thinking too.  ;D

But I like just sitting there reading and grinning while the others do the thinking.  Thinking makes my brain hurt.  ;)

I've noticed lately that a lot of my reading material is falling under Young Adult.  Quite frankly, I don't care.  A good story is a good story.
