Brandon Sanderson / Re: Mistborn as a Video Game
« on: March 25, 2008, 08:46:43 PM »
I agree it would be incredibly complicated, but a Mistborn game for Wii would be awesome.  You could push a button to use your metals and push and pull with your controller to use them and control them...combat would be awesome...probably impossible to actually make work, but in theory it would be awesome.

Most of them would be awesome, but in the end...I decided strength is the way to go.  I'm surprised that I chose thug--but really--it would be the most beneficial.  Plus--I'm not a very big person and it would be awesome to be able to beat up people (this is bringing out the violent side of me I guess...)  :)

I assumed he was dead--but I was more upset about that than Kelsier's death.  So, it would be awesome if he wasn't really dead--but something about that last scene seemed--so final for him.  I'll have to go home and reread it now.  :)

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Atium question

Hmm...it would make sense that there are mistings that can only burn atium or silver or something-but we haven't seen them, so what do I know about that...?  :)

Rowlings books have relatively good endings on their own.  I love her world and most everything about the first six books, although I think Brandon is a better author.  The last book was extremely disappointing, though.  (Even not counting the laughable epilogue).  She seemed to make up new rules for the world as she went along in the book, and when things didn't make sense, she explained in interviews after the book came out, "Oh that was different because *insert some random reason that doesn't really make sense here*."  One rule in particular didn't seem to apply in previous books at all!  Also, instead of having the characters be smart to get out of situations on their own, she uses deus ex machina.  I would give an example that particularily bugged me, but it would be a spoiler :)

Anyways, Brandon's books aren't like that, and I'm sure MB3 will be WAY better than Deathly Hallows.  (no pressure haha ;) )

Books / Re: How has your views on WoT characters changed over the years?
« on: January 28, 2008, 08:56:37 PM »
I used to really like Rand, and I thought Min was funny and enjoyable to read about.  I since have hated them more and more with each book that comes out (even though I somewhat feel bad for Rand).

In the early books, Mat was selfish, but now he is my favorite character.

I actually like Elayne and think Rand is a bit cocky and stupid to give her back Andor.  Yes, he did help her immensly, but the throne of Andor is something she has been raised her whole life to have, and then to have an outsider say "I give you back Andor" -- rubbed her the wrong way.  (Also, the politics of looking like a strong Queen to keep the country together would be thrown off by her saying "I accept your gift, thanks by the way," instead of showing that she always was the rightful owner.  He put her in a bad situation by insinuating that he could give her back her country.  I'm sure she is grateful for him helping her get rid of Rahvin, but politically, acting dependent on the Dragon Reborn would be a BAD step).

Considering Elayne was "dating" Rand first out of the three, I think that she treats him well considering the situation.  I, personally, would be enraged at him for sleeping with two other women before me, but oh well.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: So..what should Brandon do next?

I definitely vote to make Dragonsteel the "big epic."  It was freakin' awesome.  Best book ever.  (Yeah, you probably shouldn't pay attention to my opinion--it's like Dragonsteel is a drug or something--I need to read more in that world!)

Honestly, though, I think you should go with what you're in the mood for and what you think will be best for your career.  Getting all those WoT fans means getting fans who love big epics, so that might work for you.  Of course, they might be a little sick of following large series after such a long time (especially one like WoT).

So--that's my preference  1. A Dragonsteel book (by itself or as the start of an epic) 2.  Big "other" epic

Know, though, if you go with the "other" epic that you are torturing me by not releasing Dragonsteel.  ;)

Yeah, her atium would really come in handy, especially against the gholm (spelling?).  :)

Elend is a much better choice for husband than Rand -- I think if Vin was tempted to leave Elend it would be for Mat or Perrin... :)

Have you read Warbreaker yet?  That could add another day or two of reading material...

*Spoilers*
My favorite scene is where Vin fights that girl and group of allomancers on the roof to save Elend--I could definitely see that in a movie. :)  I think that is one where she rips off her dress (it's been a while since I've read it)--and that part is great.

I agree about all of the girls melding into the same person--except for a few exceptions--like Egwene (because Gawyn is gone...).  They've gotten better--but after Nynaeve got married I was so angry.  I'm like--where is her character?  Does she just exist to please Lan?  Same thing happened to Min, in my opinion.  It's like--in real life, just because a girl is having sex, does that make her completely change and spend all of her time trying to seduce her man?  In my experience, no. lol

There are lots of his autographed books at the Borders in Riverwoods--of course that is also in Provo, so probably wouldn't help most of you...sorry.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: I want info about Goodkind/Brandon's comments

I haven't read Goodkind, so I don't really care one way or the other if people love him or hate him.  I love reading, so if you love Goodkind and it makes you happy--good for you. :)

But I think even someone raised Catholic who went atheist would have heard of Paul--I mean--come on people!  Am I wrong? lol

Wait a minute--does he really pretend to not have any idea who people are if his characters are compared to them?  Of course there are parallels between people and characters all the time in all books *rolls eyes*.  I skimmed the article quickly, but did he really say he did not know who Saul of Tarsus is?  Wikipedia says, "Goodkind was born in 1948 and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, where he also attended schooling in art and Catholic Catechism Instruction."  If he's Catholic shouldn't he know who Saul/Paul is???  Maybe (I hope) that isn't what he was claiming...

I think he also said in another interview he didn't know anything about Robert Jordan's books--he sure gets defensive quickly...

Brandon Sanderson / Re: How did you find out about Brandon Sanderson?
« on: December 13, 2007, 01:02:13 AM »
My sister worked with him at BYU -- maybe on the Leading Edge?  I don't know.  Then she brought home this manuscript of a book called Dragonsteel one day and told me to read it and make any comments on it.  I read it in like a day (and it was really really long--and I'm a slow reader).  It was my favorite book ever!  (Which is why I'm so persistant about wanting that series published--but it's ok if it isn't...)

Then my other sister read it (who basically never reads--espeically not nerdy fantasy stuff like me...) and she loved it too.

So I just kept my eyes open for his name at bookstores for the next like 5 years *haha*...and he eventually got published!  It was very cool.  I saw him at the Harry Potter signing, but haven't really met him.  (In my opinion, Brandon's books are way better than Harry Potter--unfortunately his books aren't as popular yet. :) )

I'm also an obsessive WoT fan--so it was the best news ever that he's writing AMoL.

The Way of Kings sounds cool too :)!  In other words, I'll buy and read whatever you write.  I'll always hold out hope for Dragonsteel, though.
