Everything Else / Does anyone understand Linux? A cry for help
« on: July 13, 2005, 06:34:07 PM »
My dad just got a new Linux machine (for very cheap). Since he has a dial-up internet connection, I said that I would help him find a music player for Linux that plays mp3, but it seems that all Linux programs require you to compile them. I just need some help making sure that I download all of the right files.

This is actually MoD's husband.  I'm looking for a G-mail account invitation if anyone still has one laying around.

Please forward it to my wife's email address (dreamon27x at yahoo dot com).

In my current project the prologue is told as a legend and I'd like it to have the same feel as Tolkein's Simarilian, whithout being a poor imitation.

Saint has given me some places to look and books to read to help me get the feel of the rythm, etc. and I'd like to gather other suggestions from everyone else.

In particular, EUOL, I hear that you have a similar section in Way of Kings, can you offer any advice?

Movies and TV / Gargoyles
« on: January 07, 2005, 07:23:44 PM »
My brothers just gave me the DVD for Christmas. A surprise gift it made me very happy. Finally I would get to watch some of my favorite Gargoyles episodes like the The Mirror and A Light House on the Sea of Time.

It 'twas not to be. Because the first season was aired only on Friday there are only 13 total episodes (and that is counting the 5 parts of the pilot individually). Depressingly, I actually have all of these episodes on VHS having previously tracked them down on ebay. (Honest compels me to point out that the version of the pilot I have is in four parts rather than 5).

So, the DVD is digitally remastered, which is nice, but all it really does is leave me wishing fervently for more.

Does anyone know anything about whether Ole Money-starved (i.e. Disney) will be releasing the second season??

The moment you've all been waiting for (well, I have at least) has arrived!!

Mathias Samuel Whiting made  his grand entrance at 02:52 Saturday, June 19th at 8 lbs 10 oz.

Both of us are doing very well, but it may be a while before we're visiting regularly.

My website hasn't yet been activated, but I will email a picture to Saint and ask him to upload and post a link to it.

I'm looking for advice on world building.

I started work on my story and based on feedback from AS, it sounds like I need a better definition of my world than the vague this country is here and that on is over to the east someplace.

Anyone have any ideas?

I've looked at Patricia C. Wrede's world building questions and a World Building tutorial that I found on the internet. Both are very extensive and intensive, and before I dive into either one, I'd like to know what the rest of you do. Or if you've heard/read any good suggestions.

Everything Else / Bandwidth
« on: April 12, 2004, 03:06:40 PM »
So, I've been looking at web hosting services. Pricing them, seeing what's available, etc. A lot of the sites I've looked at have listed 40GB of bandwidth. Now this seems more than I would ever need in any version of the universe, but I used to say that about a 2GB harddrive (a long time ago). What's the general rule of thumb on guesstimating this?

Tage would you mind telling me how much bandwidth TWG uses? If TWG uses 200GB of bandwidth, or less than 40, that would, at least, give me an idea of what to expect.

EUOL--what does class importance mean? Does a high number indicate greater importance or the other way around?

Everything Else / Help!!

I have a great need to reformat my hard drive, but my Windows 95 disk is history since I thought I had the Full Version of 98, unfortunately I only have the Upgrade.

If anyone has the Full 95 files (I have my own certificate and CD key) I would be VERY appreciative.  Brownies are involved, or a Mrs. Fields certificate for those of you who are out of state.

Do the previews for this set anyone else's teeth on edge?

Doesn't there seem to be entirely too much pink involved?

I know none of the male types will probably care, but it makes me sick.

I'm really sorry, guys. I resisted as long as I could . . . truly.

Saint: That's an okay death scene. I think you could do better.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help those of you still struggling. I'm excited to start up again next week myself, and maybe some of my enthusiasm could help you.

Video Games / Prince of Persia
« on: November 14, 2003, 12:53:34 PM »
http://www.princeofpersiagame.com/index.php

I've never been to Penny Arcade before. And I was bored this morning so I decided to wander over. Today's review is on the newest release in the Prince of Persia series. Now I fell in love with these games on the Mac. Not just because it was a fun game to play (and very frustrating to play, mostly because I don't play video games very often and it's hard to get the rythmn of jumping down) but because the story is so rich.

And there's more of them! And not just on Macs! This is so exciting. Any of you may buy it for me for Christmas.

I'm so excited.  :D
