Brandon Sanderson / Re: Final Hero of Ages Theories

I am removing myself from this discussion because I have finally pieced everything together and it would be best served in the spoiler thread.

Forget the Inquisitor cows, I'm using a bunch of spanish people, because no one expects the Spanish Inquisitors. Ok, was that too much of a stretch with this younger generation?

I don't think they will be moot. The next new book is a ways off and we'll need the humor to tide us over. Plus, it may prove useful to Brandon, knowing what things threw us off, which ones were easy to figure out, etc. so that his next series of books are that much better.

I had more than twice the votes of Andrew. To time travel back and change events is to deny democracy!

There were alot of hanging submit buttons, the TTM would merely go back and make sure everyone made their selection and then fully pushed the submit button before closing the browser, preventing such a travesty.

Standard procedure is time-traveling Mistborn.

They've been fighting the Inquisitors for about ayear, they probably used up any that they had found or they discovered the reason that kandra collect Atium and it is too important to burn...

I would also like to remind everyone that elmandr1 is probably full of it. Like he would be on the forum after having received his copy instead of reading it. I did get a notification that mine is ready for pickup however. I might have to go home early.

Here's a few more discussion points, from re-reading the sample chapters.

Prologue:
What knowledge could Ruin learn from the synod that it already hadn't corrupted?

Chapter 2:
"Accept death," the voice hissed quietly. "Do not put yourself in a position to cause further harm to our people...."

How could TenSoon do further harm? Why does this voice want him to accept death rather than speak out at trial?

Chapter 3:
Elend flared pewter. A warm sensation--now familiar to him--burst to life in his chest, and his muscles became taut with extra strength and energy.

Does he have a touch of Terrisman in him that his muscles experience a physical change?

Brandon Sanderson / Re: The 13th and 14th metals?
« on: October 09, 2008, 09:52:42 PM »
You've got a good point. Brass, though, is almost always more copper than zinc. We don't know what the percentages are in the specific allomantic alloy Brandon used (if he ever even decided that). But that may be a sign that the alloy does not have to be primarily of the allomantic base metal.

Can anyone find any good candidate alloys of Chromium where it is the primary component?

Yeah, I was basing my theory on White Brass for it to hold :P

I couldn't find any alloys with Chromium as it's primary component however.

Yeah, I had mentioned that it was weird that Brandon made up two of the metals, when everything else existed IRL.

As far as spawning in one place, I believe this is only mentioned in a conversation between Kelsier and Ham, so it is possible that it spawns other locations. According to Wiki, Chromium in it's native form is rare, with a mine in Russia being the only one listed. I know there are other metals concentrated in certain geographic areas, so Atium forming naturally in one area is not unheard of.

Contracts. There is obviously something more to this story, however it could be something as simple as trying to keep as much out of TLR's hands as possible or because it is easier to hold one Atium nugget than a huge purse full of coins. If they really needed the atium, I don't see why they wouldn't just find a way to sneak into the Pits of Hathsin and get it themselves. They could eat some guard and prisoner bodies or something and being natively blind might locate it much easier than Skaa could.

Ahh, yes. You are quite right, I did misinterpret Adrienne's post about buring Tin.

Regarding the TLR theory, I haven't decided what I think of it, it's merely another theory I pondered trying to make sense of what little information we have acquired. I have a bunch of theories that prove and disprove each other, I am just trying to fit them together like a puzzle that will eventually fall into place. I fear I will have failed come October 14th, however I am comforted because a voice whispers that another shall finish my work.

My TLR theory was created to make sense of his actions. He gave Allomancy to people he hated, forced his own race into slavery and breeding programs in part to prevent them from breeding with the very same people he gave Allomancy to, which would have produced offspring that could challenge his throne. Why not just withhold Allomancy entirely?

The only confirmation in the book that Rashek was TLR was when Vin whispers 'Rashek' and TLR turns. She accuses him of killing Alendi and then TLR says 'You know nothing!' 'You know nothing of that!' We also have Kwan's mention that he is sending Rashek to kill Alendi and Alendi's journal ending before the asencion, so there are those things.

However this information is offset by TLR's actions and other things in Alendi's journal. Alendi killed his own friends because it was necessary while Rashek always talked about the Terris people being dominant rather than subservient. Alendi wouldn't have to change character to become TLR in book 1, whereas Rashek would have to change dramatically, making his own race subservient when he wished them to be dominant, merely because he decided to give Allomancy to people he hated.

Edit: Please don't read this as I am in support of my theory; I have come up with theories against, like the reason he put the Terris into breeding programs was to breed out the ability to store memories in metalminds, which could be altered by Ruin. I think Brandon even mentions Rashek in one of his annotations, proving that TLR was in fact Rashek, however like I said, most of my theories are trying to make sense of information that doesn't jive. I don't share most of them, the board would be too cluttered.

Well, yes.  But they don't provide any evidence one way of the other as to atium's existence in mistborn, pre-Lord Ruler.

If the bracers were the 'Piercings of the Hero' prior to ascension, are made with Atium and designed in such a way that they must be ripped from the flesh to remove them from the body, a small case can be made for the metals existing prior to ascension. While it might not be concrete evidence, it is still evidence. What evidence do we have that TLR created the metal?

Maybe he created it just so he could make the bracers out of them.

Or these bracers were pre-ascension in the form of 'Piercings of the Hero'.

The noblemen are people that are accepted as blessed by the Lord Ruler for supporting him during his rise of power.  Obviously they are not terrismen because he has hunted them to extinction.  Were they perhaps Alendi's traveling companions?

Yeah, I thought this was a little weird myself, which spawned my 'TLR is actually Alendi theory'. I won't get into the specifics, but the only argument against it was that TLR had Feruchemy which Alendi did not have, as if Furechemy is the only ability that cannot be gained. This might be true but I haven't seen any evidence that Feruchemy cannot be gained through a process similar to the other two.

On page 111 of the second book it states:

"Perhaps that was what Marsh had been following; the senses of a man burning tin could be quite acute."

Marsh wasn't a Mistborn he was a seeker who could burn bronze...  Was this part of his change into an inquisitor?

Marsh could always tell what someone was burning as long as they didn't have a cloud up. His Hemalurgy might strengthen his Allomancy allowing him to read them or give him the ability to pierce the clouds. Or both.

Yeah, I'm not sure what I think. Atium and Malatium aren't real world metals like the rest, so it lends itself to TLR creating his own. However, I thought that Atium existed prior to TLR because it was part of his bracers.
