Rants and Stuff / Re: Revenge of Grumpy Bear

My work hosted a convention last week and again this week.  Last week some assistants got so drunk they made fools of themselves and embarrassed the company in front of our agents.  Some complaints even made it up to the president of the company.  Because it was so bad all assistants have been banned from attending the activities during the convention this week.  It really sucks that I don't drink and can act like an adult at a company function but that I get punished because others can't be bothered to do the same.

I know I've read some of his stuff but for the life of me I can't remember any of them right now.  I also looked around and found that I didn't own of his books.  I rectified that last week and made a trip to the bookstore.  (Life I need an excuse to go to a bookstore.)

Brandon Sanderson / Re: WoT Read-Through by Brandon

I'm curious if anyone's read (or is Brandon going to read) the companion book to the WoT series The World of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time?  I can't remember when it came out so I don't know how far along the plot and characters were in the series when it was published.

I don't have a subscription to Analong so I'll have to pick one up at the bookstore.   I now have a legitimate excuse to go into a bookstore instead of the "I want more books" one I usually use.  :)

I've gone to conventions for years in various states, but last year was my first time at CONduit.  I loved it.  I'd recommend going all of the days.  For someone who is still looking for a little help/inspiration/commiseration with their writing this is a great place to go.  The wealth of information you'll receive is worth the price of a hotel room (and airfare or gas if you live out of state like myself).

Rants and Stuff / Re: Bad Science
« on: March 03, 2008, 08:27:23 PM »
The science in a science fiction book for me doesn't have to be "real" or "true" but plausible.  If I can believe that some strange things/event/devise/mode of transportation could exist if the circumstances were right I'll buy into it.  But that's the same with the "magic" system in a fantasy story.  A good author will take these fantasical elements and make it real/believable for that story whether it be science or magic.

For the RPG fan and owner of an Xbox 360, are any of you going to be playing Lost Odyssey?  I have my copy being shipped by Amazon.

My brother gave me Guild Wars for xmas and I've created my character but I haven't done anything yet as we haven't been able to get a time to play together.  I play RPGs all the time but this would be my first forray into MMORPG.

Ya gotta love free, but I've already got all the issues online.  Oh well.

The literary world of The Wheel of Time could go the way of the literary world of the Star Wars Universe.  Many authors writing many books.  Some are good.  Some are so-so.  And some are down right aweful.  Not to mentions some inconsistencies with the timeline and such.  So be careful what you wish for.

For those of us anxiously awaiting the next book you're not helping Ehlers.  For those of us engrossed in the Mistborn world the anticipation of Hero of Ages is going to be almost as bad as it was for the end of the Harry Potter series.

I am miserably sick.  It feels like the Pacific ocean is pouring out of my head.  And why is it I always get sick in January?  Is it personal?
