Movies and TV / No real desire to watch TV
« on: February 14, 2006, 08:58:26 AM »
Its wierd, over the last 3 months I've had no desire to watch regular TV. Im interested in some stuff on history international (i.e. History Channel England... /me inserts sarcasm here "big difference on perspective guys") but in general you can take my TV and eat it for all I care.

I havent even really cared for movies.

Its odd.

I spend a lot more time online now which may be why...

but who knows.

Everything Else / Google Videos

I thought it would be a great thread to start talking about cool google videos.

I love the new commercial from United Airlines (entitled Dragon) which seems like it was lifted from my changeling game.

Rants and Stuff / Snow Day in DC!
« on: February 13, 2006, 11:21:33 AM »
From Wonkette-

Yay! Snow Day!

Drunk pages sledding down Capitol Hill! Tour guides throwing snowballs with rocks inside at fat Midwestern children! The Capitol Police shutting down every single government building to investigate 8 inches of mysterious white powder! School's canceled, we think! Even if it isn't, don't go! Gentrifiers cross-country skiing down U Street in thousand-dollar parkas! Whee!

Everyone loves a snow day! Except the Metro section at the Post, naturally, for whom snow is a terrifying glimpse of God's wrath, or something;

Quote
Like a cloak of insanity, the snow dropped.

Falling like one of those quiet obsessions you read about in short stories, setting the scene for heightened senses, muffling normal sounds. Falling like snow on a black-and-white TV. Like madness. Like when one of those Edgar Allan Poe characters falls into a spell so deep he can focus on only one thing, see only one thing, hear only one thing.
...
In the thesaurus, snow is listed on the page with the heading "sniper-soar" Under Snow, some of the words listed are refrigerator, drug, poison, words that some people mean when they say snow. Under snowflake is written: softness, powder, white thing. You stop at white thing. It sounds creepy.

Guys. The District got like 8 inches. Chill out. This is like a 1,200-word piece on how thunder is scary.

Role-Playing Games / The essence of a Robin Hood campaign
« on: February 13, 2006, 10:10:20 AM »
So Im struggling with a campaign I've been writing for Ars Magica 5th Edition. All in all though I think I've been able to mine a little gold for the Ars Magica setting.

I thought I'd list my assest before I get into the meat.

1. Edwin King's excellent Lionheart campaign book, set in the 1190's

2. A map from Dragon Magazine (I think May 2000) of Robin Hood countryand Nottingham Castle by Stephen Daniele

3. Ars Magica 5th Edition

4. The book of mundane beasts

5.Howard Pyles Adventures of Robin Hood and his Merrie men

6. The adventures of Robin hood NC Wyeth

The scene: 123 years after the Norman Conquest, King Henry II is warring on his rebellious son Richard and Phillip II King of France. He has taken ill and decided to sue for peace. Phillip II smelling blood presents Henry with terms, including a 20 thousand mark restitution for damages, the succession of Richard as King of England and Duke of Normandy a demand that Richards betrothed (Alice sister of Phillip) be safeguarded by persons appointed by Richard until he returns from Crusade, and a pledge of fealty from Henry to Phillip.  The last straw for old Henry was the revelation in the treaty that his youngest son John had defected to his brothers camp, broken in spirit and in health his health grew worse and he was taken to Chinon france where he died in July of 1189.

Rants and Stuff / Stuck in my head
« on: February 09, 2006, 10:42:27 AM »
So, I've been debating wether this should go here, or in music, but I think here is better.

For the last week and a half I've had a song stuck in my head.

Well two really.

An R&B song and its Rock and Roll cover.

It pops in everytime I think about TWG... and if we could afford the rights I'd use it in the podcast im working on (too few hours in the day).

Piqued your interest yet.

Its the song "Time is on my side" by Irma Thomas, covered more famously by the Rolling Stones.

Its so in the spirit of TWG its not funny.

Everything Else / Cool Firefox extras...
« on: February 08, 2006, 10:16:54 AM »
So, I decided to switch to firefox a while ago, and in spite of 1 or 2 minor issues Im pretty happy with it.

Today I found an extension that I really like.
Basically it turns a webpage into an instant IRC chat.

Is it the end of forums as we know it?
Nah.
But it is pretty cool.

Peekko Chat is a new Firefox extension that makes every web page a place where people can congregate. It adds a toolbar to Firefox that shows how many people are in that page's chat room and allows you to instantly connect with them.

What's this? / Teamspeak now for Mac...
« on: February 08, 2006, 10:10:47 AM »
Why is this here? Well there is now a teamspeak client for Mac. I was thinking, to test it out, anyone want to run or play in a RPG? If so, I was thinking Lacuna (which I could email to players to evaluate) or something equally rules light.

Just brainstorming...

Music / Missing a radio station
« on: February 04, 2006, 12:11:28 AM »
WHFS .... why?!

Its been a while since they changed you overnight into a Latino radio station. And while there is a certain irony in that (I heard Stan Ridgeways Mexican Radio first on your airwaves) I miss the station you were. Of course you went downhill when clear channel destroyed your format, and your integrity. You had good DJ's good shows, a heck of a punk and industrial show, and even Reggae on saturday nights. Plus you played TMBG when TMBG wasnt even hip.

You were a good place to start loving music.

Im just feeling a little nostalgic tonight listening to some good old fashioned punk rock.

Well.

bye
