Role-Playing Games / Re: Online gaming
« on: October 10, 2007, 06:57:48 PM »
Yes, I do plenty of this. Plenty of online PnP RP all the time. I use mIRC where I've been with this one channel for almost 5-6 years now. Currently I'm playing in a 4-colour superhero game using the BESM 3rd edition book. It's all sorts of fun. I'm also running a psionic-spy-horror thriller campaign with the other users in the room as well.

I like the way you can run things online, since you can just throw a link to some googled image and say that's a good representation of where you are. You know?

I've never heard of this OpenRPG, but I'm more into going with rules-lite games anyways. Less time spent hovering over pages of rules the sooner the fun can be had.

Yeah, HoM, you'll want to check out the -entire- episode next time. You've definitely been missing the other half of the show. There's a quirkiness about it that is enticing and cute.

However, I'm also liking the tones of whos-who and double agents going on. As well, it's interesting to see how two different branches of government can just get in each others way and how neither of the two trust one another. (Those two being the CIA and NSA in this instance.)

Hmmm, I like your thinking there Ookla. The kid could be a character similar to J'onn J'onez, the Martian Manhunter from Mars. It would be neat to see another character similar to Peter's who has multiple different abilities.

I like how they wrote Maya's character to think her powers are a curse from Satan and that God will help her become "better."

Also, did anyone else catch the fact that they mentioned some disease that's killing off these "special" persons?

My most disappointed moment: When George Takai was killed. Why did he have to be the first? WHY?!

Books / Re: College prep comic books

Wild Thought: This guy's obviously never read himself many comics and is only bashing on them because Kaplan has decided to take a really dumb route to "educate" their users to profit more, but he didn't take the time to see this because he's too busy trying to roll every other point he has into his "I Hate the Education System" which would have been just fine and dandy without the need to bash on comics. Dick.

Sorry, but that article upset me a bit. I'm not going to say comic books shouldn't be taught in a college setting, but when they are the professor who's using them ought to know his material. I had a professor who taught a comic book, Watchmen, in one of his classes up in Canton NY. Guy knew the material and handled it well.

What kind of a "kick" did you get out of that article Skar?

Music / Re: What are you Listening to?

M. Ward is one of my new favorite musicians that I've recently found. He's got these really great rhythms and lyrics; my favorite track is "Big Boat." If you're online in the next 10-15 minutes I can send it to ya. Good stuff there. Also, Chris Smither's is a great guitarist in the tradition of Dylan, Nelson, Cash, etc, if you might be looking for that.

I suggest you try eMusic and just swim through the catalogue they've got there. I found some good stuff before I quit my trial subscription. You get 25 free tracks to download.

I got: Claimstak’n Squirrelly Girl, "How Fun!" It won’t be long until you hear wedding bells. The guys like you and you like them! All you have to do is pick. Warning: Watch out for those players or you’ll get burnt…Other than that, have fun!

I just changed all the pronouns from guy to girl or he to she so it wouldn't freak me out as much. =P

I must say though I don't like the thought of "it won't be long until you hear wedding bells." I'm really hoping to not be married until I'm past 30 or so.

Role-Playing Games / Re: D&D 4th edition??
« on: August 21, 2007, 02:01:07 AM »
I think, in a quick post, that what SE and others are feeling is that from 3 to 3.5 there were minor changes, but still everything was the same price.

Now, however, we're getting the same price again, but still don't have much information on what we're getting besides another "overhaul" of a system that's been around for a while.

Are you also noting Sprig, that D&D is more of an investment of a table-top game than most others? I've got a few systems laying around that are only one book. However, D&D has (always?) been filled with a number of books that expand the system/world for you.

I'm sure everyone here can say they have at least $200 worth of D&D material, if not more.

So 42 are you apart of the RPGA? Do you participate in any of their campaigns?

This seems like it'd be the most opportune time for any aspiring DMs or players to join the RPGA on a fresh, clean start. I've looked into the RPGA once or twice before, but it always just seemed so convoluted and at times daunting and confusing.

Whoa whoa whoa, hold the phones buddy-boy! Where's everyone's talk about this movie? It came out last friday and was fantastic. I'm going to plug a friends review of the movie here.

I did enjoy the movie a lot and I thought it was a pretty good adaptation. Nearly flawless. There were a few bits that were cut from the original story, but overall, I can't complain.

What did everyone else who saw this think? And if you haven't seen it yet, why not?

Heh, this sounds like a fun book. It seems like you enjoyed it, but I'll ask anyways. Did you enjoy it?

Also, if you liked this you might want to check out Vertigo's "Fables" comic which modernizes fairy tale characters and sets them up in NYC I believe. Hmmm.... maybe I'll write a review of the first trade I have... yes, I will.

But you should check it out at the library or ask Fell or somebody if they have a copy you can borrow and see if you like it.

mmmm... this is such an agonizing process. Me learning html = bad posts. Certainly doesn't add up to me wanting to post too often since I'll probably get something wrong. I'm not bad-mouthing Sprig in any way. He's been a huge help to me with this stuff. Plus he seems to be rather patient with my bumbling.
