Movies and TV / Abraxas, Guardian of the Universe
« on: January 06, 2006, 07:19:35 PM »
Alright, so my friend gave me this Dollar Store DVD of this movie. (imdb-ed: http://imdb.com/title/tt0101264/ and trailer: http://imdb.com/rg/TITLETRA_VIDDET//http://videodetective.com/home.asp?PublishedID=747001)

Horrible sci-fi movie made in 1991, starring Jesse Ventura as Abraxas the Universe's only hope against Secundus played by Sven-Ole Thorsen (who was also in Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future).

Basically, bad plot, bad effects, bad acting, and the only well-acted role was played by James Belushi as the principal in a rather humorous short scene. (The kids are making fun of this one child and the mother asks him if he's told the children to stop calling him names and picking on him. He responds, "No... no I haven't. I'll have to try that.")

Also, throughout the movie we were trying to figure out if Sven was saying "Co-Mater" or "Coal Miner" or "Coat Hanger" when referring to the child he made who has the "Anti-Life Equation!" Yeah... just an overall Below B sci-fi movie.

That one movie that was some crazy horror trilogy out of Russia or something? All sorts of crazy things going on in the trailer. Anyone remember this?

Everything Else / Cheap Halloween Comstume Ideas
« on: October 18, 2005, 09:39:48 AM »
Ok, so I need one of these and Fell's post about his costume last year got me thinking. Anyone got any good and cheap ideas for a costume that people might be able to understand the reference? (I know I could dress up as a poet, but many people probably wouldn't know it.)

Everything Else / 24 Hours, Minus the Love Shack
« on: July 25, 2005, 05:01:35 PM »
Alright, so tomorrow starting at 3 p.m. I'll be joining my friend in a 24 hour poetry marathon. Now, this is a call for those who enjoy doing insane things to join me in this rush of adrenaline as we cascade our minds through hours of poetry as written by our own hands and minds.

Hurry though, and make up your own start time, but remember that you'll have to either go the full 24 hours or have 24 poems written before the final minutes and seconds.

I've heard of some of the stuff, but most of it I've never seen. I'm kind of interested to figure out what this Wildstorm branch of DC is though. Must be some kind of Vertigo.

Movies and TV / Bewitched
« on: July 14, 2005, 07:11:59 AM »
I saw this movie yesterday. It was rather enjoyable, and everything, I think, was actually rather well done. I will also admit that I actually had a sort of attraction to Nicole Kidman in this movie, even though I usually don't even think of her as anything but un-groovy. She was completely groov-able in this one.

Will Ferrell actually did a rather good job as well. He wasn't always acting like some completly off-the-wall idiot, but at times was rather heart-warming. Micheal Caine, awesome as always.

I must say though, this Nora Ephron is a good director, and I feel she's helping to break the mold and help women get into the business of directing films and movies instead of it being such a man-heavy business.

Everything Else / What is this thing?

What was this crazy thing in Provo I heard about today on the radi-o? Something about some crazy board filled with insanely goofy writings that would suit me very well.

So, what's going on? Who's going, where will we stay, when will we know these things, why has this topic died? How is everyone doing?

I'm saving up some money for plane/con tickets and other paraphanalial. What's everyone else doing about this?

Books / Aythor Signing Tours
« on: June 12, 2005, 11:19:51 AM »
Ok, I figured I'd start a thread about authors trips around the globe for their signings. I have Gaiman's schedule here, but it's only for his Phillipenes/Singapore/Australia tour. So, you "OZers" as Jam puts you, should find him!

He's going to be everywhere. I hope he'll be in Buffalo. That would make me.

Movies and TV / Terry Gilliam Getting His Groove Back?
« on: May 26, 2005, 01:31:12 AM »
http://film.guardian.co.uk/cannes2005/story/0,15927,1485600,00.html

So, it would appear that he's made a movie, stopped, made another movie, went back to the other one and finished both.  So, does this mean we'll be seeing more of Gilliam films? Such as the faded Quixote movie he had planned? What of the Good Omens movie he was going to make but couldn't raise the money for back then? I suppose we'll find out in a few months.

Everything Else / A question in short(s).
« on: May 25, 2005, 01:24:19 AM »
Any of you writers out around here who use outlines, could you help me with figuring out just what I'm looking for in one. I've never written an outline for a novel, let alone much of anything else. I'm not much of an outline person but I need to write one for this collaborative novel I'm working on. Thanks.

Robison E. Wells / What's Next?
« on: May 22, 2005, 03:07:51 PM »
So Rob, what's next after you finish this Awakened series? Any ideas or will you be laying low from the LDS market for a while? Maybe join in NaNoWriMo this year? Possibly hit the strip and cruise it on over to Australia? We all know what Brandon's doing, but what about you?
