Rants and Stuff / [RANTAGE]
« on: August 14, 2008, 09:50:26 AM »
SO.  Here's the deal.

I roleplay on this site http://ffworldzcom.phpbb.com/index.php .  Sometime this morning one of the admins decided to take away everyone's privileges, delete a bunch of accounts, and block a bunch of people by IP address.  The also set it up to look like someone else did it.

So I spend LITERALLY 10 hours using various methods to attempt to hack the site.  (I'm a pretty good hacker if I do say so myself.)  The only problem being it uses one of the newest versions of PHPBB2 so it was extremely difficult.  THEN RIGHT AS I get REALLY close to getting in, said Admin decided to fess up to doing it and said they will be giving permissions back to the owner of the site so that she can fix things.

TEN HOURS I wasted in an attempt to fix something and she just up and gives it up.

I mean, really I should be glad the site is back and running well. . . . BUT STILL TEN HOURS!?!?! ha ha.

OKz, I'm done. [/rantage]

Well I feel better now.  On a side note I managed to gain a lot of knowledge about hacking PHPBB1.0.0-PHPBB2.0.22, so I guess it wasn't a total waste.

Music / Give me a lyric
« on: August 07, 2008, 03:24:17 AM »
OK, here's the deal.  Someone will give a line or two from a song, the next person has to try and guess the song and artist.  If they get it right, then they get to say the next lyric.

The idea is to NOT use sites such as Google to find your answers.

My lyric:
There's an old man sitting next to me,
making love to his tonic and gin.

Brandon Sanderson / So I just. . . .
« on: August 05, 2008, 06:36:33 AM »
So I just bought and read 'The Hope of Elantris.'  (ONLY $0.49!!)  It did wonderfully at explaining the little things we miss during the Fjordell attack that we miss because we are focused on Raoden returning the city to light.  But NOW I realize how much I LOVED the book and how LONG it's been since I read it. . . . looks like it's time to pick up an old favorite again.

Note: Elantris is my favorite book of all time.  SO much socio-political philosophy going on.  I LOVE IT!

Brandon Sanderson / HoA compiled. *SPOILER POTENTIAL*****
« on: August 02, 2008, 07:31:48 AM »
My collective theory on the story of HoA!

-Note : I'm not going to clutter this post with evidence.  It's there, just look for it in the books and on the threads.  Siting all of my evidence would make this post WAY too busy and long.-

1 - Allomancy - I feel that it will be downplayed a bit, but will still retain some of it's importance.  It will still be key to defeating Ruin and the deepness, though it will take a back seat to Hemalurgy.  Obviously Atium will not be as much an issue as it was in the previous books.  I also don't feel there is much more to learn about it, other than minor stuff to solidify the more blurred edges hanging around from the last two books.  I believe that when TLR took the power from the well he created Allomancy in order to attain his immortality and to control the people through rewarding them with it.

2 - Feruchemy - Where we learned a lot in WoA I believe we will get what is left from HoA.  I do believe that the metals we have not heard about yet will come into play, but probably only minorly.  I do think that there MIGHT be a possibility of them posing a semi-key plot. -see Sazed-  I think that Feruchemy was created by a past claimer of the power from the Well and it was created in order to preserve thing, thus linking it to Preservation.

3 - Hemalurgy - We will get the rest of what is involved to creating a Hemalurgist.  I believe that we will find it will concert the following. :Sacrifice(s), What metals do what:  I also think we will find that those with either Allomancy or Feruchemy gain great advantages in those if they attain Hemalurgic abilities.  I think that this was probably the first of the powers to have existed, thus it better binds the two others and ties it all to the mists.

4 - The Mist - Vin's theory about it being the Deepness will be proven.  We will also learn how it is she burns the mist.  I personally believe that it is a combination of using multiple systems at the same time creates the ability to burn the mists.  I believe that using all three magic systems and burning the mists at the same time will be some ultimate power that has yet to be discovered and will be important.  After all, look what Vin did with just two.

5 - Ruin - Ruin needs a physical form in order to affect the physical plain.  That is the thing that it needs.  I believe that the inquisitors will somehow provide this gateway that is required.  How it will happen?  Not sure yet.  I also think that Ruin is heavily tied into Hemalurgy.

6 - Preservation - Preservation has been buried within one of our protagonists.  Who I'm not sure.  I think it will either be Vin or Sazed though.  Also I think preservation is heavily tied to Feruchemy.  I think that Preservation planted itself into a person so it could affect the physical world in the same way that Ruin needs to find a gateway.

7 - Elend - Elend, now having Allomantic powers, will be able to feel more a part of the team and will be more accepted by the remaining crew members.  He will continue to play the same type of character in the third book.  I think he will be the one to figure out, but not actually cause the "unity" :read that at the end of this post:

8 - Vin - She will again discover more about herself and her powers.  Her having access to Hemalurgy will be heavily relied upon as they learn how it is used.  -There is no basis other than my theorizing on this next part.-  She will discover she also has Feruchumical abilities which will lead to her being able to unify the powers.

9 - Sazed - He represents more than knowledge and preservation.  He represents all of humanity in a struggle between logic and belief.  He will uncover the rest of the Terris religion and he will learn to believe. . . not in a religion, but balance.

10 - The Unification - I believe that the only way to defeat Ruin will be to unify Ruin and Preservation into a single entity.   This will, in my theorization, happen when Vin uses all three magic systems together to call upon the mists.  Unifying the two magics that represent each extreme with Allomancy, the middle ground together, causing balance in the world.

So it's almost 3 A.M. here. . . haha.  I just thought this would be a good way to put everything together.

Brandon Sanderson / A suggestion . . . . Potentially controversial
« on: July 24, 2008, 05:45:07 PM »
So I may be going into. . ..  no actually I'm sure I'm going into controversial territory here.  But before I go right out and make the suggestion I'm going to give it some kind of backing.

We have seen through history that literature has a strong affect on the way people think and view things.  When something is written about, the opinions that are expressed upon said thing are more accepted than others.  So if we speak badly of something, people think badly of it.  If we speak good for something, opinions of it improve.

Now, generally we have seen that these topics are chosen from the current social standings of the area, country, or even world that the writer lives in.  Now, there are many things in our world today that definitely deserve some time in the light and that need to be thought better of.  In some of Brandon's other books, Elantris in particular, there is much shown on people who use their positions of power for personal gain, which exemplifies corruption, no matter the organization, and sheds a disparaging light on it..

So here is what I'd like to propose.  There seems to be much going on with the acceptance of people being homosexual in recent years.  I may be bias do to my orientation, but I think that spreading good word about people having rights is a good thing.  We have seen in recent years more and more good media is coming about, but there isn't a lot in literature that is written by popular authors, therefore what is written doesn't gain much credence.  I would like to see a gay character in one of Brandon's books.  If even just a minor character we seldom hear about.  Things like this will better our world.

Now we can't just look at this as "The gay agenda" -BTW I wasn't aware we had an agenda in the first place, no one invited me to THAT meeting.-  But it has to be looked at as everyone's rights.  I mean, if we allow the government to take away our ability to live how we chose.  EVEN if it's just ONE thing. . . what happens when that one becomes two. . . two become ten. . .. soon our government has complete control over us.

Well . . . now that I'm done ranting a bit.  I would like to hear your opinions about this.

Movies and TV / My Review : The Dark Knight
« on: July 22, 2008, 03:49:22 PM »
Christian Bale once again does a spectacular job portraying a Batman who is dangerously balancing between doing what is right and giving in to his emotions and doing something rash.  He seamlessly goes from playboy gone corporate worker to a man who will do anything it takes to do what he thinks is right.  However, what we think is right isn't always right.  Does this lead him down a path of darkness?

Michael Cane and Morgan Freeman, Alfred and Fox, brilliantly play supporting rolls.  While they don't always support Bruce's endeavors, they still support him as a man and a hero.  Gary Oldman, Gordan, does really well portraying a character who is struggling to trust anyone throughout the movie while Maggie Gillenhaal, Rachel, desperately searches for love and a stable relationship.

Heath Ledger, the main antagonist, The Joker, is undoubtedly insane in his search to sow chaos on every black of Gotham's streets.  His angrily adorned makeup, covering up scars from an incident we never quite understand,  is a refreshing change from Jack Nicholson's meticulously done version.  The character has been shifted to become a darker jester who still enjoys to laugh, but whose tricks include making a pencil "disappear" into a mans skull and whose jokes include putting lives on the line and making our hero make the classic choice of the girl or the second option.  Truly no past or future performance can compare to Ledger's brilliant one.  R.I.P.

Aaron Eckhart, Harvey Dent, begins his roll as an up and coming politician who is loved by the people of Gotham, as well as a beautiful young lady, Rachel.  He is doing all he can to clean up the streets and make Gotham a better place and soon finds himself loosely working with Batman.  Some of Batman's older fans may be disappointed in the way this character makes a transition in the film, because it doesn't follow the original story, but it is similar and provides for an excellent suspense seen later on into the movie.  After a terrible accident Harvey takes on an old nickname, two-face, becoming a completely different person struggling to define the difference between justice and revenge.  Excellent acting on the part of Aaron Eckhart.

The movie is action packed and suspenseful, not a dull moment.  Throughout the movie you are kept on your toes as the story  makes drastic, unexpected turns.  Gaining new perspectives, some characters gain depth and dynamic, where others become a bit disappointing.  Characters will win and lose, our hero will hold lives in his hands, he'll struggle with what's right and what's 'right' and people will die laughing over some new "jokes".

-I love watching movies and being critical about them, so I decided to take a whack at writing a review since the movie has been out a while and one hasn't been posted.  This is the first review I've ever written so go easy on me. xD-

Music / A cover song.
« on: July 09, 2008, 08:17:48 PM »
So, generally I don't like covers for songs, but one of my favorite bands recently covered Into The Groove by Madonna, and I think they did  wonderful job.

Here is a link.  Any thoughts?

Movies and TV / Naruto: The Manga Vs. The Anime
« on: July 08, 2008, 05:44:27 PM »
The Manga -

I feel that the manga was, and continues to be with new chapters, one of the better laid out manga there are.  The story is amazing, everything links to plot points further down the line.  Nothing is left to just dangle.

The Anime -

They do a decent job of keeping with the story, then suddenly they add like 50 episodes of crap that they pulled out of nowhere.  I mean, what's up with that?  Why can't people just leave stuff alone?  In my opinion, that ruined it fo me.

Video Games / DotA
« on: July 08, 2008, 05:28:30 PM »
So, I went through a few pages and I didn't find anything on this.

I've recently become obsessed with this Swedish Techno DJ, Basshunter.  He sings this song about playing DotA and I was wondering if anyone has ever played it, because I was thinking about playing it, but I don't want to download it if it sucks.
