Movies and TV / Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets
« on: November 18, 2002, 05:40:29 PM »
Ok, so how did we all like it?  I personally thought it was an incredible improvement over the first film (which was so slow that it actually put me to sleep).  Kenneth Branagh as monster hunter and media whore Gilderoy Lockhart was incredible!  You could tell he was having a lot of fun in the role.  the movie as a whole was much more scary than the first, with lots of blood and monsters.  Far too intense for anybody under, say, eight years old, but a whole hell of a lot of fun for older kids and adults.  I really urge anybody who hasn't yet seen it  to go and give it a peek.

Role-Playing Games / So what is everybody playing?
« on: November 13, 2002, 12:01:24 AM »
Okay, let me ask the most basic of gaming questions: what games are people out there playing right now?  Also, what are some of the BEST games you've ever played?  Right now my group (there are 8 of us in total, but it is difficult for all of us to get together at the same time) has gone retro and we are playing the tried and true BASIC version of D&D, the same as we played when we were ten, and we are loving it.  We are also playing D&D III, Supermegatopia, and Obsidian.  I am right now reading through the Lord of the Ringd game and will be starting up a campaign after the holidays.

Movies and TV / Star Wars questions
« on: November 08, 2002, 11:05:27 PM »
Okay, maybe some of you out there can enlighten me.

1)  Is Darth Maul a red skinned critter with black tattoo patterns, a black skinned critter with red tattoo patterns, or a normal skinned feller with black AND red tattoo patterns (ouch)?

2)  What are jawas and sandpeople supposed to look like beneath all those wrappings/cloaks?

3)  Sifo Dyas IS Darth Sidious, right?

4)  Was Aurra Sing the one who taught Boba Fett the bounty hunter trade following the demise of his father?

5)  What exactly did Padme actually see in Anakin?

6)  In Return of the Jedi, is Palpatine's unusual appearance due to his dabbling in the Dark Side, or merely an effect of his great age?

Yeah, I know these questions are all kinda silly, but since I'm here to waste time anyway, what the hell...

Video Games / Bond.  James Bond.
« on: November 07, 2002, 03:17:02 PM »
Has anybody else seen the new Bond game?  It looks incredible.  I was at a Target the other night and there was a big screen tv with the game on it and I swear I thought it was one of the movies; that's how realistic it looks.  Even if you couldn't give a dog's dinner about James Bond, go take a look at this one.

Suggestions Box / New Topics?
« on: November 07, 2002, 03:07:22 PM »
I see plenty of places to post about books or games or movies, etc.  But there appear to be quite a few interesting topics with no home anywhere on the boards.  What about:

Sports?
Music?
Television?
Babes/Hunks?
Politics?

Those are just a few off the top of my head that I never see a place to post for.

Role-Playing Games / Talislanta
« on: November 07, 2002, 02:19:09 AM »
Those of you who read my postings know of my great fondness for the Talislanta game.  It is currently in it's fourth printing, a massive hardbound book.  Or so I hear.  I have NEVER actually seen this product.  Can anybody out there verify that this new edition of the game famous for having "NO ELVES" actually exists?  If so, is it on shelves, does it need to be special ordered, or can you get it only directly from the company?  Any info would be appreciated.

Movies and TV / Comic Book Movies
« on: November 07, 2002, 02:12:38 AM »
Movies based on comics seem to be the big thing in Hollyweird these days.  We have seen a whole slew recently, and there are many slated to come out in the next year or so.  Daredevil.  Hulk.  X-Men 2. Spiderman 2.  League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.  Blade 3.  What do all of you think about this trend?  Which of the upcoming films will be good, and which will probably be trash?  Which comic book movie has been the best so far?  What comic would YOU like to see turned into movies?  Personally, I am really looking forward to League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.  I also am eager to see NIGHTCRAWLER in the new X-Men film.  There are a lot of "wish list" movies I'd like to see made, but right now one of the tops would be Power Man starring Ving Rhames.  THAT would be cool.

Books / what about "adventure magazines?"
« on: November 02, 2002, 04:21:06 PM »
I used to call comic books "adventure magazines" since they were not books, nor were they comical (at least not the ones I read as a nipper).  What comics are you all reading?  Or am I the only one?  I've been following Poison Elves, Liberty Meadows, and Knights of the Dinner Table for years, amongst others.  What about the rest of you?  Do any of you like the new "Ultimate" iniverse from Marvel?  Who else was really ticked off over the lackluster Wolverine Origin story?  Does anybody out there remember The Maxx (one of my all-time favorites)?

Movies and TV / oooooooh, scaaaaary
« on: October 30, 2002, 02:58:54 PM »
Okay, since it is so close to halloween, let's hear about some of the scariest films out there.  What was the one film that made you feel like jumping out of your skin?  Which film genuinely creeped you out the most and made you sleep with the hall light on?  For me, it was an old movie called Suspiria.  It was about an American girl who becomes accepted to this dance school in Germany which turns out to be... well, go see it.  Not very gory by today's standards, but very very creepy.

Suggestions Box / ¿Que es mi "character?"
« on: October 29, 2002, 02:07:27 AM »
Hey, maybe somebody can answer this.  Apparantly I have a "character" with a complete list of stats and skills and whatnot, on my profile.  In the words of a certain pro wrassler, "Whaasupwiddat?"  What game system is this, how are the numbers measured, and what is the purpose?  Am I missing something here?  Let me know.TEXT

Role-Playing Games / A few notes on Lejendary Adventures.
« on: October 28, 2002, 09:01:40 PM »
The other night I came to the rpg page and found a review of the Lejendary Adventures game written by (if I remember) Kid Kilowatt.  From the review, it seems that KK is under the impression that this is a brand new game, but it isn't.  The game, written by industry creator Gary "I Am The Diceman" Gygax first appeared on shelves in 1999. The first book, Lejendary Rules, was available in two versions: the normal version for $25 and a deluxe version signed by Gygax himself for $35.  The Game Masters codex and the Beasts of Lejend books soon followed, as did half a dozen or so adventures which ranged from "real damned good" to "what, was he on drugs when he wrote this?"  The game, although beloved by the old school gamers who went wild over seeing GG's name on a game book, was a financial disaster.  The books did not sell well due to a combination of no ad campaign and (I hate to admit it) the fact that the books were poorly laid out and contained some of the worst rpg artwork this side of Errol Otus.  The worst problem (in my own opinion) was the absolute lack of a game world.  We were given races, monsters, ships, weapons, and everything but the kitchen orc, but there was no context to use them in.  By mid-2000, the game was long gone.  Lately, though, there seems to have been a resurgeance on interest in Lejendary Adventures due to Gary Gygax going on record as admitting that the original game was flawed and that there would be new products for the game in 2003 that would be more in line with what has become the industry standards.  Sooo, let us wait and see what develops.  I will say that I really enjoy the game, which is simple, easy to pick up, and encourages role-playing over dice rolls.  Creating a character is simple and fun.  It takes only a few minutes and when you are finished you have a character who is really good at one thing, not bad in a couple of others, and has some small proficiency in perhaps one more realm.  The magic system is quite flexible and allows anybody to learn a spell or two to compliment their other skills or abilities, not just mages.  My own character is a high-strung kobold duelist who fancies himself a cavalier (when he isn't out tomb raiding and the like).  Oh, and before I wrap this up, let me tell ya: the first of the new books to come out in 2003 is a complete worldbook!   Joy  :o)

Table-Top Games / Warhammer Quest
« on: October 27, 2002, 07:55:03 PM »
Am I the only bloke who remembers Warhammer Quest?  What happened to it?  They were producing character kits left and right for it, had a handful of supplements, and even a mini-magazine (which I think lasted all of three issues).  They pourned an insane amout of money into the venture,, and then, POOF!  The whole game just up and disappeared for no reason one day.  What happened???  Did anybody else out there love Warhammer Quest, or am I just a bloody raving loony? (No, that isn't a trick question)  Remember the Chaos Warrior?  The Witch Hunter??  The Brettonian Knight???  The Pit Fighter????
