Role-Playing Games / NEW GAMES TODAY
« on: January 24, 2003, 10:29:39 PM »
Today I picked up D20 Munchkin's Players Handbook ans D20 Snarfquest!  Next free gameday my group gets, we're gonna do a humorous one-shot.  If it works well, we might end up doing it in small doses a couple of times a month.

Also picked up Pulp Zombie, the new 1930's adventure guide for All Flesh Must Be Eaten.  It looks incredible!  And it has a teaser in the back for the NEXT All Flesh supplement, which will feature a zombified version of Pro Wrasslin' (the mind boggles).  So many games, so little time.

this is a GREAT time to be a gamer!

Hoody-hoo!!!!

« on: January 21, 2003, 07:01:44 PM »
Has anybody played the new Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance yet?  If so, how is it?  Is it worth buying?  Who are the best characters to play?  How does it stack up to the others in the series?

Oh, and does anybody know anything about the rumor of a third MK film?

Movies and TV / WORST film of all time?
« on: January 17, 2003, 02:10:22 AM »
Okay ladies and gentlemen, the question for the night is "What would you consider the absolute WORST film ever put on the screen?"

My personal vote:  I Spit On Your Grave.

Movies and TV / Hulk SOILERS
« on: January 12, 2003, 07:02:04 PM »
WARNING:  SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

I'M NOT KIDDING: SPOILERS ARE COMING!!!!!

FOR REAL, DUDE, SPOILERS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!!!!

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!

I have it on good authority that in the upcoming Hulk film, Bruce Banner isn't actually the Hulk.  Rather, it is Bruce's dad who is the Hulk and Banner is trying to reach his dad as he rampages across the country to transform him back to normal before the military gets to him first and tries to blow him away.  Can anybody out there confirm or disconfirm this?  Has anybody seen any pics of the actual Hulk yet?  I'm dying to see what he looks like.

Movies and TV / Daredevil SPOILERS
« on: January 06, 2003, 02:22:36 AM »
SPOILER ALERT; I REPEAT: SPOILER ALERT

SPOILER AHEAD!

I'M NOT KIDDING!  SPOILER AHEAD!!

I've been informed that in the upcoming Daredevil film, Elektra isn't an assassin but an (ahem) vigilante.  Kinda takes the edge out of the whole character, not to mention the main reason why their relationship has always remained a doomed one.  Not only that, but Jennifer Garner looks about as Greek as French Fries.

Oh, and Bullseye is a geek who carves a target into his forehead (as if you didn't already know).
I REALLY hope this film is a lot better than what I have been hearing.  If anybody out there has any info that would indicate that this will be a good movie, please share it.

Movies and TV / DVD Mania
« on: December 31, 2002, 02:40:59 AM »
DVDs these days are just incredible, what with all of the special stuff that is being added to them.  The one that has me taking notice right now is the 20th anniversary edition of Tron that was recently released.  Not only is the film digitally remastered and a true joy to see on the screen, but it comes with a very cool scene originally deleted from the movie, has like a bajillion production sketches of the development of all of the characters, and comes with a teaser for a supposed TRON 2.0 which may or may not be in development.  Even if you don't want to add this one to your collection, make sure to rent it.

Also, please rent City of Lost Children.  It's a little French film made in the mid-90's; a surreal urban fantasy starring Ron "No, it's not prosthetics; I really do look like this" Perlman.  This movie is just too freaky-deaky to pass up.

Sooo, what are some other DVDs worth noting?

Movies and TV / Upcoming releases
« on: December 31, 2002, 02:32:55 AM »
So what upcoming movies are we all getting psyched for?  Personally I can't wait for X2 (the new X-Men movie) coming out on May 2nd with Nightcrawler!  I also have high hopes for the Hulk film.  The Daredevil one I have serious reservations about, but I am willing to wait until I see it before I pass judgement.

I am somewhat less impressed with the idea of a third Terminator film.  Arnold is getting too old to do this sort of stuff.  He needs to forge new ground rather than recycling his past success.

Everything Else / HELP!!

I tried to change my posting quote and ended up deleting my entire profile.  Is there any way to restore it, or have I removed myself totally from the space-time continuum???

Rants and Stuff / Angry Ditch Digger
« on: December 11, 2002, 02:12:14 AM »
Never in my life did I ever imagine that I'd be called an angry ditch digger.  Wonders never cease.  Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.  Us angry ditch diggers are just tempramental like that.

Movies and TV / Treasure Planet
« on: December 03, 2002, 12:34:37 PM »
Okay, I'm here to tell you that it is safe to see Treasure Planet.  I wasn't certain way back when I saw the initial trailers, but I took my kids the other day and they just ate it up.  And it was cool for us adults, too.  The computer animation is simply gorgeous at every turn, but especially when showing us scenes of stardocks and ancient galleons sailing through space (there is no wind in space, but so what, it still looked cool).  It had a lot of action and last-second escapes, but still nothing that caused my kids to hide under the seat (we're talking age 6 here).  The characters are fun to watch, especially the stiff-upper-lip proper British ship's captain (who happens to be a cat woman) and Silver the cyborg, with his multi-purpose robotic arm that can go from slicking veggies to brandishing a bazooka at a whim (with the voice actor obviously channeling Robert Newton,  Arrrr, matey).

While there is really nothing that is going to make this movie an all-time classic, it is still impressive to look at and genuinely fun.  If you are looking for a flick that you and your kids can watch together, this is the one.  Plus you can use it to motivate them to read Robert Louis Stevenson!

On a side note, they showed a trailer for the next Disney film: Jungle Book 2, the further adventures of Mowgli and Baloo.  I don't know about the rest of you, but I just hate it when they make a sequel to a classic Disney yarn that just doesn't need it, solely for the purpose of making more money.  the Peter Pan sequel, while not terrible in itself, has forever dampened my enthusiasm for what was once an incredible Disney film.  The additonal Little Mermaid and Aladdin films weren't needed either.  When will Disney just stop the insanity?

I just want to wish everybody a happy and healthy Turkey Day.  Make sure that you all enjoy the day with somebody that you love, and don't forget to remember all the things that you are thankful for!  Personally I am thankful for my wife and kids, my parents, my good health, being in a career I love, and Peter Jackson.

Role-Playing Games / Personal Favorites?
« on: November 22, 2002, 08:16:39 PM »
There are a LOT of games out there, many of which are very well made but come from small-press publishers or are just so old that they have been forgotten.  This is a list of games that are not major names in the industry, but ones that, at some point over the years, I have greatly enjoyed.  Some are old and long out of print, while others are available now but languish in RPG anonyminity:

Arduin
Obsidian
Twerps
Legendary Lives
Dying Earth
SLA Industries
Starships & Spacemen
Supermegatopia
UNsanctioned
Flashing Blades
Lace & Steel
Villains & Vigilantes
Teenagers From Outer Space
Little Fears
Timelord
FemForce
Everway
Hunter Planet
Nightlife

How about the rest of you?  What are some games that you either play now or have in the past that have nothing to do with White Wolf or WotC, yet you still had a blast playing?  Does anybody remember any of the names on my list?

Movies and TV / Birds of Prey

Has anybody else seen this series?  I'm looking forward to former playboy playmate Sung Hi Lee (one of my all-time favorite babes) to make her appearance as Shiva.  What do you all think of the series?
