This is why I read the forum posts: credible arguments based on reason and experience.

Movies and TV / Gollum's rant on MTV

For those of you who missed Gollum's rant on MTV after winning for best visual effect, all I have to say is that you missed what is perhaps the greatest thing ever shown on television.

Table-Top Games / inquisitor
« on: May 31, 2003, 11:36:26 PM »
I just picked up some games pretty cheap.  I got Inquisitor for ten bucks and Talisman for (and I'm not kidding) thirty bucks.  Both brand new from a games store that is changing location and has to reduce inventory.  Now I already know about Talisman, but I was curious if any of you have played Inquisitor.  Anybody have any comments for good or ill about this game?

Movies and TV / Animatrix
« on: May 31, 2003, 11:27:40 PM »
Just to let you all know, I got an advance copy of Animatrix on Thursday and I finally got around to watching it, and it is INCREDIBLE!  I have to say that I liked Animatrix more than I liked Matrix Reloaded.  It is coming out next week and I strongly suggest that everybody see it.  This is what all modern animation should be.

Everything Else / Stickfa
« on: April 11, 2003, 01:12:01 PM »
This really isn't a deep posting; just wanted to say I picked up one of those stickfa toys last night and it is really wicked cool.  It is the soldier one and it comes with eleven different guns, plus a combat shield, plus a ladder, and lots of other little extras.  I have been putting him in Todd McFarlaine and Chow Yun Fat poses all morning.  Next up I want to get the samurai.

And later this year: superhero stickfas!

Way cool, even if they do cost eight bucks a pop.

Role-Playing Games / Red Dwarf

I just came back from my games store with a copy of the Red Dwarf RPG!!  I had thought it to be just a myth, and certainly never thought they would release it here in the USA, but here it is.  I won't be able to actually sit down and read it until Monday or so, but just the thought that somebody actually decided to make a RPG based on my favorite band of intergalactic nitwits is enough to make me gosh-darned glad to be a gamer.  Smeg!!

Books / This is SO cruel.
« on: March 10, 2003, 07:48:29 PM »
I have seen the novelization of the new X-Men film already in stores (for about three weeks now)!  It is 400 pages and written by X-Men guru Chris Clairemont.  Every time I see the book in a store I must resist this massive temptation to buy the thing, or at the very least open it up and read a bit of it.  HOW CRUEL for all of us who want to be totally surprised when the movie comes out to have it on store shelves some two months before the film's release date.  What on earth were they THINKING?

Movies and TV / New Fantasy Movie
« on: February 27, 2003, 09:29:58 PM »
I just heard that Michael Moorcock has signed a deal to produce a live action version of Elric of Melnibone!!  No word on actors or directors, but it is slated for a 2004 release.  Does anybody out there know anything about it?  Has anybody heard anything?  Who would they cast?  How about that skinny bloke who played Lestat in Queen of the Damned as Elric?

Movies and TV / Best Dang Guy Movie Ever
« on: February 24, 2003, 07:00:03 PM »
Okay, what are some films that you would list as being the best dang guy films ever?  You know: films that you watch when your wife has gone away for a few days and you can sit in front of the TV with a beer and a bowl of curl-your-hair-hot chili and celebrate being a bloke?  Some of my nominations include:

1)  Gladiator

2)  The Road Warrior

3)  Conan the Barbarian

4)  The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

5)  Romper Stomper

6)  Taxi Driver

7) Fried Green Tomatoes (KIDDING!!!  just wanted to see if you were paying attention)

Role-Playing Games / Mutants & Masterminds
« on: February 06, 2003, 03:03:28 AM »
Has anybody else tried this game yet?  It is prolly the best capes n' tights game on the market today.  We put the game through it's paces this evening with a two-hour session mostly dominated by a full-scale brawl between our characters (Rattlesnake, Inferno, Fightin' Machine, Kali, and Dingo Boy) against a half dozen armed-to-the-teeth cyborgs and a whole slew of ninjas.  My character is Fightin' Machine, a former pit fighter who gets stronger, faster and deadlier the more damage he takes.  By the time that he is half a heartbeat away from snuffing it he is like the world's baddest man.  In the midst of combat he was hip-deep in ninja and whacking himself in the face repeatedly with a shield to get himself deeper into "The Zone."

This game is cool.  The few flaws we found in the system are minor at best (like having to pay for whatever weapons you have with character points) and the combat moves MUCH faster than Champions.  Hopefully we will be adding M&M (the game, not the rapper) as a "preliminary bout" to our usual Sunday afternoon game.

Anybody else have any insights into this game?
