Books / The Complete Borders Implosion
« on: July 21, 2011, 06:57:02 PM »
Larry Correia posted a write-up on his impression of the whole fiasco, and he quotes some of my thoughts at the end of it.  Go check it out and weigh in here and there on what you think of Borders' complete mindset of idiocy.

Books / Book Price War

I'm sure you all have seen this, but it's worth noting:

Apparently the new way to sell hardback books that were already going to sell tons of copies is to sell them for $9.  Selling books for a slight loss has been a practice of the book industry for a while, but $9?  Seriously?  Regardless, I am using this to my advantage, and so should you.

Books / Book Review Site
« on: August 03, 2009, 08:19:27 PM »
This is in no way meant as competition to the people who review books around here, but my good friend (Nick) and I are now doing a book review blog. as most of you know, I have VERY distinct tastes in novels, and we have fun with the attitude I'm sure most of you think I have! lol!

Lou Anders, the editor of the awesome Pyr SF&F, has already given us a big thumbs-up, and now Brandon gave us some love in his latest blog post. Head on over and check it out. It's still new, so we only have a few reviews up. We are updating daily. These are designed to be spoiler-free reviews, tailored with info that might help you decide if you should give the book a try or not.

Writing Group / Writers of the Future
« on: July 10, 2009, 05:32:27 PM »
Hey guys and gals - If you were thinking of finishing up a shorts story or novella and submitting it for consideration anywhere, you might want to try finishing it up sooner rather than later and get it in in the Fourth Quarter contest for this years Writers of the Future. If your story is 17K or less, I'd recommend trying to get it in this quarter which ends September 30th. Seems like you guys (myself included) should try getting used to submitting your work. I notice for myself that I feel more motivated since I am actually sending stuff in for consideration.

this is just an FYI, but I thought some of you might take the suggestion to heart.

Dan Wells / Awesome Feedback for Dan!
« on: March 31, 2009, 04:08:49 PM »
Giddyup! Check it out:

"This dazzling, unput-downable debut novel proves beyond a doubt that Dan Wells has the gift.  His teenage protagonist is as chilling as he is endearing.  More John Wayne Cleaver, please." -- F. Paul Wilson

This quote, by this author, is freaking amazing.

Movies and TV / Where's The Dark Knight review?

I kinda expected one already...

That said, the movie was awesome!  My only complaint was who died at the end.  Wasted opportunity.

Books / Free Ebooks - Hugo Nominees
« on: April 21, 2008, 10:56:21 PM »
4 out of the 5 nominees for this round of Hugo awards got together and got permission to give out free ebooks of their nominated works.  This is a great opportunity to read these novels...with a catch.  You have to be a participating member of this year's WorldCon - Denvention 3.

Here is the link for info:

hopefully that works....

Brandon Sanderson / New MB 1?
« on: November 05, 2007, 07:42:44 PM »
What's this rumor Im hearing about a new MB1?  Are they gonna fix the crap-tastic cover?  Or do the thing where they release the paperback again at a discounted price right before #3?  Or did the original PB include that deleated scene where Kel gets abducted by aliens and they want to take it out?

Books / The Prestige
« on: December 13, 2006, 12:53:55 AM »
I'd like to know what people's opinions are of this book by Christopher Priest.  I found the first half slow, but interesting - then the 2nd half extremely good.

While the movie was not quite as good as the book, I thought it was very good in its own right.

So, just out of curiosity, who all did we "Steve" at Worldcon?
