Brandon Sanderson / Re: *Spoilers* General Shard List

i guess nightblood could TECHNICALLY hold a shard... but i don't know how she/it would get one

Plus, everyone would be screwed if that happened.

Hahahaha!  Yeah, Odium would REALLY be in trouble, then!  :)

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Dalinar's gift and curse (lolSpoilers)
« on: September 17, 2010, 08:26:01 PM »
Nightwatcher was probably jumping for joy when he heard what Dalinar requested. He didn't even have to think of a curse to match the favor.

Nightwatcher is a woman.

My personal thought was that Dalinar's "gift" was losing the memories of his wife.  I'm not sure why he would ask for it--maybe he knew something about her, or about her death, that he didn't want to remember.
And I don't think that we have seen his true curse yet.  Or it could be that his curse is something to do with Renarin (which might be why he looked at him).  Maybe it is his fault (by seeking the Old Magic) that Renarin is weak and he feels like he needs to make it up to him by getting him Shardplate.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Hopes/Predictions/Wild Theories for Book 2

7. This is a tall order, but I'd like a scene from Hoid's POV.  Better yet, I'll wait a few years so Brandon can write a book specifically about Adonalsium with Hoid as the main character!  Oh, my goodness gracious.  I think I'll go get in line for that book right now!!!
We already got a scene from his POV. Did you read the last chapter?

Oh, yeah!  Oops.  :)  I guess for some reason I didn't feel like there was enough there.  It was mostly just his speech.  I wish there would have been more internal monologue.  I really want to know how he thinks.
I don't think that's gonna happen, since he knows way too much. It would spoil a lot of the plot.

Remember how Vasher's scenes in Warbreaker said almost nothing of what he thought?

Yeah.  That's why I'll be waiting for him to get his very own book, and put all of this theorizing to rest.  I realize it probably wouldn't happen for 20+ years... but here's to hoping.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Interesting Line by Hoid in tWoK

My theory is that Hoid is the cause of whatever split Adonalsium and the "element" he mentions is either what enabled the split, or the centerpiece of Adonalsium, which would enable it (him/her?) to rejoin.
Why would he split it just to rejoin it again?

Maybe he didn't mean to; it could have happened by accident.  I don't necessarily buy this theory, but it could be confirmed by the epigraph of chapter 14: "Let me first assure you that the element is quite safe.  I have found a good home for it.  I protect its safety like I protect my own skin, you might say."
I think the fact that he compares it to skin might be an important indicator that the element has something to do with a body.  This also might be evidence to suggest that Hoid is Adonalsium and he protects the element in a similar way to Ruin protecting the Atium (which was his body).

Please let me know if I got any of my references wrong.

One question i have,  who is the Nightwatcher?  she's described with a Female Gender, while both Odium, and the Allmighty are described/shown to be Male.  Could she be the 3rd Shard Cultivation?

I'm pretty convinced she is.  The Almighty says at the end, that Cultivation is much better at seeing the future than he, and it is mentioned several times in the book that Vorinism despises all forms of future telling, but that in the Western countries, it is more accepted, due to their belief in the Old Magic.

Oh, my goodness!  I nearly threw my book in anger when Sadeas abandoned Dalinar.  My husband was in the next room and thought I was going nuts.  I just kept yelling, "Oh, I hate that Sadeas!  He's so stupid! I'm going to kill him!!"  haha.
And now that stupid jerk has a Shardblade.  Great.

Also, I'm with everyone else.  I don't think Szeth is a villain.  Yeah, he kills people, but I have a feeling magic is involved somehow.  I think after the whole epic Szeth vs. Kaladin rivalry plot unfolds, he'll become one of the good ones.  Maybe he'll send Kaladin after Taravangian, get his Oathstone back, and then they'll be the beginning of the new Windrunner order. That's just my prediction though.

Wow.  I have a lot!  I don't expect most of these to completely play out in Book 2 (It would be even longer than the first one!) but I do hope they at least get addressed as the series progresses.

1. Taravangian: I'm wondering about his connection with Odium.

2. Absolutely Kaladin vs. Szeth.  I foresee this becoming an ongoing rivalry.

3. I got a little too excited when I had this thought: Shallan and Adolin!  It makes total sense!

4. The epigraph letter is totally by Hoid (sorry non-believers).  The 17th Shard are the men looking for him--I can't wait to see more of them--and they are definitely from Sel.  No way would Brandon use the word "kayana" by accident.

5. I was wondering if Shallan's Memories might be connected to/ the same thing as the Almighty's picture journal thing.  Dalinar mentions that the visions are some sort of journal, and I'm thinking they are a very advanced form of Shallan's Memories; the Almighty does say that most of the visions are ones he has seen directly and the rest of borne out of his fears.  I'm thinking he took Memories of those visions and then projected them into the future/past/whenever.

6. It was mentioned somewhere on the forums that Odium visited Sel before the events of Elantris.  I can't believe no one has made the connection yet, but hello: Odium caused the Reod!  My guess is that his killing Skai and Aona was what created the Chasm and therefore the fall of Elantris.
