Brandon Sanderson / Re: knights radient
« on: January 10, 2011, 05:58:49 AM »

You'd think if they were sick and tired of all the fighting they would have hidden the Blades and Plate away where nobody was going to find them anytime soon, of course, maybe the other orders besides the Windrunners  and Stonewards did, and that's why there are hundreds of Shards missing. Rather then you know leaving the fighting people with even better ways to kill each other.

Maybe they wanted to make a public display of giving up. However I am certain that there must be more knights radiants that gave up the sword that wasn't at the same place as Dalinar was. And don't forget that a lot of shards are missing. How did this happen?

Also, on a side note, what happened to the dawnshards that the heralds gave up in the prelude? Are they still there, or has someone come and taken them?

Can I just throw out a random theory on the Knights Radiant here? I was reading the back of the book, and ended up just staring at the line, "before the Heralds abandoned us and the Knights Radiant turned against us." for ten minutes.

For no apparently reason it occurred to me that maybe the Radiants have somehow 'fallen from grace' for lack of a better term, and that maybe they got cursed, or something to that effect.

It's been a long time since I have had the book--I just barely got it back--and I'm too lazy to look it up, but I remember something about the Voidbringers being the parshmen, or at least that's what Jasnah thinks. Any chance the Radiants are Parshendi? or vise versa?

I just had to write it down before I started pulling apart the flaws :P

Any thoughts?

I don't think it was so much the knights that fell to grace, but the humans around them. Without the threat of the voidbringers, humanity started fighting amongst themselves, and the knights got sick and tired of being used in these fights, so they gave up and let humanity fight amongst themselves.

Books / Re: So I'm reading A Feast for Crows...

To be honest, i think the main reason for the long wait is that he has to create whole new material to fill in the 5 years that he was previously going to skip. Once that is done, the other books shouldn't take too long to write.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Favourite Minor Character

I liked that one character who did that thing. That was so cool!

No, seriously. I liked the dock hand who helped buy books. He seemed like a super street-smart kid with a lot of heart.
That would be Yalb.  And yes, he was awesome. :D

Thank you.  I couldn't remember his name and I didn't have my copy of the book at hand to look it up.  I hope we see more of him in later books.

I think he'll become another knights radiant. No evidence, just a feeling...

Truthspren or Honestyspren, as they seek truths. I doubt they are artspren, as we already have creativespren (was that what they were called?) that appear when she draws the picture of Jasnah.

Perhaps there's another Lashing for forcing things apart, although that doesn't really deserve that name "lashing"......

I could see that being another type of magic system. One magic to attract things, another magic to repel things.

Unfortunately, the changes in tense is a product of using the same passage for the different versions of the story. I merely copy and paste the section from an old version into this version, and add new things in, which means that tenses change, and unfortunately due to my shockingly bad grammatical skills, they usually don't get picked up. Thx for pointing it out to me though.  :)

I really liked this chapter! I can't wait to read the next chapter.

My only question is, who does this chapter fit into the overall plot of the book? Maybe I need to see the next chapter, but for me it was a big jump to go from modern day to a flashback without really knowing about the main plot yet.

However despite this I loved this chapter - my favourite so far - and I think it may work depending on your next chapter.

Thx for the feedback. I will try give some explanation of what I wanted without giving any spoilers.

Jason waking up was suppose to be the next day after the murder. It happens approximately the same time as Daniels' study of the crime scene (actually, it is likely to happen before that scene, but plot wise it works better to be after this chapter).

The dialogue definitely needs work. I wasn't happy with it, but I didn't know how too fix it. But now though, I think I know what to do.

I am happy that the characters are different. I was worried that the reader wouldn't be able to distinguish the voices.

I didn't want to make this a traditional fantasy book. I give it a more 19th century london setting. However, magic is needed to fill some gaps between the technology level, and the high level of forensic science. I also wanted to create my own culture and religion, and fantasy allowed me to do that. However, I think your comment is a valid one. I will try to make some more reference to the fantasy world I have created in the first chapter.

Hopefully, my next few chapters keep you entertained.  ;)

EDIT: Daniels wasn't just assigned the case, he has a reason for paying special attention to this case. The reason is simple enough, and will be revealed in the next chapter.  ;)

The broken one?
Wait, maybe Odium is not evil but simply *mad* or incomplete?!
Highstorms transmit the Almighty's journal entries to all who are sensitive enough to receive them, which makes me doubt they are (entirely?) caused by Odium.

Nothing more dangerous than a mad-man. And constant hate would make anyone mad. But what Hoid said in his note still stands, before taking his shard, Rayse was a loathsome man.

Reading Excuses / October 18 - Stormblessed - Perfection Ch1 + 2
« on: October 18, 2010, 05:29:50 AM »
So here is my first submission for Perfection, a fantasy murder mystery. Just warning that there is sexual references and violence. Also Perfection is only a working title, and named after the fact that the murderer was a perfectionist in the original story which predated this version. I have included two chapters this time as the first one is really short.

Anyway enjoy! :)

Ch 1: We meet the first protagonist, an assassin Jason on his first contract kill.

Ch 2: We meet the second protagonist, Chief Inspector Daniels, as he discovers the crime scene left behind by Jason. We also return to Jason's PoV, as he thanks the Goddess for his fortunate life.
