Brandon Sanderson / Re: WoK 30 magic systems (spoilers)

quixote--
Maybe it is like in "The keys to the kingdom": There is the Nothing a type of antimaterial emptyness or void, there are the Nithlings, which are made from Nothing and who often aim to destroy and dissolve regular beings and there are the House Sorcerers who use the Nothing to perform various magical feats.
See what I'm trying to say?

Brandon Sanderson / Dalinar's gift and curse (lolSpoilers)
« on: September 16, 2010, 09:43:50 PM »
I have this weird hunch that Dalinar made his trip to the valley to ask for Renarin's life while he was still an infant...
The only real evidence I can present is that he looked at him directly when speaking about it, and that Dalinar isn't the type to make frivolous wishes, especially not when the practice of dealing with the Nightwatcher.
Other ideas?
Step forward. ;)

At the end of the book, a figure that seems to be the 10th herald breaks down in front of Hoid.
Who do you think will get his armor & blade, and do you think this will be important for the story?
Is it one of the "Dawnshards"?
Why are they sent to "hell" after each death?
I hope I'm not spewing nonsense, lol.

I think what Tavingian fears is the following:
Let's say Dalinar unites the high princes, closesly followed by all the voren Kingdoms.
In Taravingian's mind, a huge, stable empire like that is more likely to wage war on the rest of the civilized world, ( keyword: Crusades )therefore creating more tormoil in the long run.

I thought those were smaller creatures than thunderclasts (which I'm under the impression are just chasmfiends -- or at least what a sabertooth tiger is to a modern tiger).  Also, in the vision with the smokebag monsters (featuring awesome firepoker/table leg dual wielding), doesn't one of the Radiants outright say said monsters aren't voidbringers?  If it's evil and heralds another Desolation but isn't a voidbringer, voidbringers must be something exceedingly specific.  Thus, Parshendi as the only true voidbringers (whatever that even means!) makes the most sense to me.
Yes.
It's called Night's essence or something like that, and seems to be a common foot-soldier type of monster.

Aren't the ancestors of the Parshemen, and by extension the Parshendi called voidbringers?
Natural Soulcasting sounds very much like the agreement between humans and the *fins in WoT IMHO.

I guess I shouldn't have been so hasty in typing that...
Yes, there was only one order of windrunners, and I think those are the ones that bear the Glyphs and are seeing falling from the sky in the Vision about the beginning of a desolation, and the one about the knights giving up.
I'm tired lately, so please excuse my incoherence.  :-[

Okay, let me make a few bold speculations.
First, let's look at a few bits of information.
1) The Knights radient were surgebinders.
2) The figure that Kaladin's  stopped flight did so while claiming  that "The oathpact" was broken.
3) When the Knights radient gave up, their amor and blades faded and lost their Glyphs.
4) Shalan and Jasna are both people who can perform feats that are also possible with fabriels.
5) Syl finds Shards distasteful.
My conclusions are the following: The glyphs on the knights armor are a the representation of a contract between Humans and Spren.
When the Knights Radient abandoned their post, this contract became void, which made the shine of armor and swords fade.
Due to this, Shards only perform  basic functions, without granting "flight"  or other, more "fancy" powers.
Syl is revolted by shards because they remind her of the Knight's disloyalty.

So much for now.
Thoughts?
