I'd say it's worth it.

Random Theory, slightly related to the topic:

Hoid is somehow rooted in why Adonalsium split into Shards.  The "element" that was mentioned in the part 2 epigraphs is either the element that split Adonalsium, or the centerpiece that held them together, and can be used to rejoin them.

And no, I don't think that the "element" is the black crystal that the king gave to Szeth.  Besides being random and mysterious, there's no connection, and it makes no sense for Hoid to have "protected" it by giving it to the king whom many people wanted dead.

Incidentally - might Dalinar's receiving of the visions might be related to his deal with the Old Magic?

I suspect that the Old Magic is a product of Cultivation, but the visions are still the Almighty's.  Cultivation(/Old Magic) simply made it possible for Dalinar to receive them.

I don't think that Syl's objection is inherent to the Shardblade itself.  Think about it - for the past couple centuries, to get a shardblade you either had to inherit it or kill it's owner (or be given it by someone else who killed it's owner).  None of these are terribly honorable.  I suspect that in the Knight Radiants' time, Shardblades were earned.  An earned shardblade would be far more honorable than an inherited one, or one that was murdered for.

A quick beginners question: How do we know Rayse possess the Odium? It's said that Rayse "holds the most frightening and terrible of all the Shards," (ch. 19, page 295, tWoK), but how do we know that Odium is the most frightening and terrible of all the Shards?
We don't.

But it seems reasonable, as Odium killed the Almighty, and Rayas killed Aona and Skai.  Two power-hungry gods seems a bit much for one universe.

How 'bout Elithan as a name?

Also, I don't think the Spren are Cultivation's creation.  I think that they are the Splinters of the Almighty's consciousness/power, kind of like the mist spirit in Mistborn, and (possibly) the Seons in Elantris.
Makes a lot of sense, if he's Transformation, given how the Spren accompany change.

Hmm, wonder if the fact that recording a fact about a spren locks that aspect of the spren in place plays into this? Like, they transform until they're recorded? Don't know exactly where I'm going with this :-\
Reminds me of Schrodinger's Cat, and the uncertainty principle.

I don't think the Almighty is Novelty per se.  It just doesn't feel right to me.

Besides, I have theory of my own:

Quote from: WoK, hardcover, page 199
For a few extended moments, Shallan was back in the hallway again, watching something that should not be: a heretic wielding one of the most sacred powers in all the world.  The power of change itself, the power by which the Almighty had created Roshar.  He had another name, allowed to pass only the lips of ardents.  Elithanathile.  He Who Transforms.

I think the Almighty's shard is either Change or Transformation.

Also, I don't think the Spren are Cultivation's creation.  I think that they are the Splinters of the Almighty's consciousness/power, kind of like the mist spirit in Mistborn, and (possibly) the Seons in Elantris.

Thanks.  The page also indicates that his Shard might be Change, or Transformation.

I do notice that his name is symmetrical.  That seems to be his signature, just like 16 was Preservation's signature.

It mentions in the book that Elithanathile is the Almighty's name. Could just be a creation of the Ardents though.
Could you find the reference, please?

On the map of Shadesmar in WoK, there's a section labeled "Expanse of the densities".  Is that supposed to be densities, or was it supposed to be destinies?

Basically, all of Brandon's adult novels (baring WoT), take place in the same universe, and the powers of the gods of each world are called the Shards of Adonalsium.  I won't say more, because I don't know how many books you've read, but that's the gist of it.

Also, a character named Hoid has popped up in some shape or form in every book.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Splinters - SPOILERS for TWoK and Elantris
« on: September 12, 2010, 06:27:19 AM »
See, I took the Splinters of Aona to be the Seons and the Splinters of Skai to be the Skaze. Also, I don't think you're able to take up the power of a splintered Shard.
I like this theory.  To take it one step further - could the Spren be Splinters of the Almighty?  Notice that there aren't any spren in the prelude, and spren are associated with each order of Knight Radiant (aligning nicely with ROSHtafARian's theory).

Also worth noting - The shardblades and the shardplate.  What are they shards of?  If ROSH is right, then they could be splinters of the Almighty's power.  But what if they aren't?

ROSH, you are definitely right about one thing.  We have no clue what Dalinar is supposed to unite.  It could be the high princes, it could be humanity and the parshendi, it could be the Knights Radiant, it could be the shard blades and the shard plate, it could be splinters of the Almighty's power.  Why, it could even be the Shards of Adonalsium! (although I highly doubt that)

Cultivation is a Roshar Shard.  And we're not sure whether the Almighty and the Stormfather are the same entity.  Rayse/Odium is also a Roshar Shard.
I disagree slightly.  Cultivation is mentioned by the visions (Almighty), but I don't think this means that she is necessarily a Roshar Shard.  Clearly, Rayse can travel between worlds, so clearly there is some communication between them.

The same is true for Odium, but even more so, because we know he has traveled between worlds.

I do agree that for them to be Roshar shards is highly likely, though.  Except that if Cultivation and Odium are Roshar Shards, why is the local religion monotheistic?

I thought I'd try to catalog all the information we have about the Shards of Adonalsium in one place.

The format is:
Name - Shard - World - Status (alive/dead)

Italicized data is unconfirmed.

Here goes:

Ati - Ruin - Scadrial - dead
Leras - Preservation - Scadrial - dead
Sazed - Ruin/Preservation - Scadrial - alive
Aona - ?? - Sel - dead
Skai - ?? - Sel - dead
Rayse - Odium - Roshar - alive
Bavadin - ?? - ?? - ??
?? - Cultivation - Roshar - ??
Elithanathile (Almighty) - ?? - Roshar - dead
?? - Endowment - Nalthis - alive
?? - ?? - ?? - ??
?? - ?? - ?? - ??
?? - ?? - ?? - ??
?? - ?? - ?? - ??
?? - ?? - ?? - ??
?? - ?? - ?? - ??
?? - ?? - ?? - ??

Is there anything I'm missing?
I didn't put Hoid in there, because I don't think he has a shard.
